To help companies meet tolerances and achieve repeatability, Advanced Industrial Measurement Systems (AIMS), a maker of coordinate measuring machines (CMM), recently introduced the Revolution Series HB Shop Floor CMM, the Dayton, Ohio-based company announced in a Jan. 22 news release. Designed and built around Renishaw 5-axis technology, the Revolution HB is said to be the only mobile 5-axis CMM on the market.
Constructed with a polymer-cast base and a roll-around stand with casters that can be locked in place, the Revolution HB is said to be easy to move. In addition, built-in vibration resistance, mechanical bearings and thermal stability reportedly give the Revolution HB the durability it needs to withstand the rigors of shop floor use.
The CMM also features a Renishaw PH20 probe head, which provides superior accuracy and repeatability and is said to perform three times faster than conventional probe heads.
"Speed is critical for manufacturers today," said Gary Rockwell, AIMS director of marketing and product development. "Parts are becoming more complex with tighter tolerances, and customer lead times are shrinking. Part inspections can sometimes take 2 to 3 days using conventional methods. The Revolution HB is able to cut inspection time from days to minutes for many applications, such as [for] aerospace components. Best of all, manufacturers gain speed without sacrificing accuracy."
