Drilling flat-bottom holes is a challenge. So is drilling on inclined or curved surfaces, drilling into cross holes, drilling stacked plates, and drilling into cross holes, stacked plates and castings and other rough surfaces. Not anymore. Leveraging the success of its KenTIP FS modular drill, Kennametal has developed a unique insert geometry (FEG) that streamlines many of these types of applications and simplifies the drilling of counterbores and pilot holes as well.n

MillQuadFeed is a new generation of high feed milling cutters, offering two options of insert geometries that cover various high feed milling application needs. Versatile ZER geometry generates light cutting load at great depths of cut, enabling increased cutting depths and reduced number of machining passes. This is particularly effective to boost productivity in challenging rough milling operations of cast iron where a cutting depth can greatly vary on a single working surface.

Tungaloy's TungEight-Mill face milling cutter is for extremely light cutting with low power consumption, perfect for low rigidity and low horsepower machines with a BT-30 connection. TungEight-Mill incorporates single-sided positive inserts with eight economical cutting edges for heavy roughing to mirror finishing of various material faces.

Made in the USA, both VFD kits are also suited for smaller garage/machine shops, mills, lathes, and grinders. Adaptable to most applications, the VFD kits can run the motor on 220V single-phase incoming power vs. requiring three-phase power – eliminating the need for a phase converter convenient package, it can go up to 5,000 RPMs in high gear–10-15% higher than the standard milling machine could do. Unlike early VFD kits, these provide full-torque at the lowest RPM.

This system features a highly accurate geometry with the most positive helix angle possible to reduce the likelihood of surface mismatches and enable impressive 90-degree angle accuracy. Chamfering the entry and exit of 0.80mm to 6.00mm holes can be a tedious, time-consuming process. The Noventa from Sphinx can transform this process using an innovative geometry that improves cycle time, tool life and surface quality.

New features include the addition of plunge-milling cycles to the 3D and 5-axis strategies for machining cutting edges. Material is removed by plunging movements to reduce vibration and improve surface finish, especially helpful for machining edges with steep walls. When 5-axis machining, undercut areas can also be reached by specifying the lateral inclination on the tilted tool. By specifying a distance, circular or linear movement profile, the tool is optimally retracted from the part.

The new version of the solid carbide plunge mill is based on the same technology as the short version, transferred directly to the new one. Now it is possible to plunge perpendicularly into the material and reach the maximum milling depth of 5 x d in a few steps. Despite its length, the milling cutter is extremely stable and at the same time impresses with its cutting speeds, chip removal rates as well as a long tool life and surface quality, all this from a milling diameter of one millimeter (.039").
