Walter has unveiled the Walter BLAXX M3024 heptagon milling cutter, the latest entry in its line of high-productivity milling tools. The M3024, in diameters from 1.5" to 6.0" (40mm to 160mm) boasts the line's trademark wear-protected black tool body, plus indexable inserts with 14 cutting edges, which reduces tooling costs.

With CoroMill 425, Sandvik Coromant offers an eight-edge finishing tool designed for face milling that greatly improves metal removal rate and tool life in the ISO K application area. Due to its innovative setting system, it is particularly user-friendly.

Seco Tools LLC, Troy, Mich., introduced two new insert sizes to its family of 335.25 disc milling cutters, a line that is said to provide manufacturers with high flexibility and productivity. With the additions of XNHQ inserts in 9mm and 12mm sizes, the cutter now offers a range of cutting widths from 0.531" to 1.26" (13mm to 32mm) for an even greater variety of applications.

GF Machining Solutions, Lincolnshire, Ill., this week introduced rConnect, a new central communications platform for the company's milling, EDM and laser texturing machines. Advancing the Industry 4.0 vision of the smart factory of the future, rConnect offers the industry's most in-depth remote machine tool analysis, according to a Jan. 20 news release from the company.

Okuma America Corp., Charlotte, N.C., recently named Ted Winkle as coordinator of the company's Houston Tech Center (HTC). Winkle will oversee management of all HTC activities as well as support sales and Okuma's distribution partner Hartwig.

Walter Tools, Waukesha, Wis., recently introduced its new Advance product line, which the company claims increases tool life up to 50 percent. The MC251 Advance solid carbide milling cutters from Walter's Prototyp brand is said to be the ideal geometry for machining stainless materials from material group ISO M and for secondary applications in ISO S materials, according to the company.

Many times in making parts for aerospace engines with high temperature alloys like IN-718, Rene-95 and Waspaloy it is necessary to remove large amounts of material. Traditionally companies use, milling, turning or broaching to remove most of the material and then finish-grind to size. The engineers at Norton/Saint-Gobain's Higgins Grinding Technology Center have determined that for these materials grinding can, in many instances, remove the material more quickly and economically than turning or milling.
