CLP (clean, lubricate, protect) products are traditionally made of hazardous mineral oils and other petro-based solvents. Cortec's EcoAir Biobased CLP offers an excellent environmentally friendly alternative in the form of EcoAirnBiobased CLP, a biobased product in an air-powered spray can.

When grinding tools, ultrafine coolant filtration is clearly a worthwhile proposition for the tool manufacturer or regrinder: The cleaner the grinding oil is and the less often it has to be replaced, the more it will save on coolant costs, minimize waste, and reduce tool costs and machine downtimes. Filter technology, which not only cleans the grinding oils and coolants economically, but also keeps them temperature-stabilized state in the system for an extended time period, achieves measurable gains.

Klüber Lubrication introduces Klübersustain GW 0-460, the first product from its hydro lubricant series. A high-performance gear lubricant, Klübersustain GW 0-460 uses water as a base fluid.

AMCOL Corp. introduces electronic control and PLC (Programable Logic Controller) integration to its 6000 series precision lubrication systems for true minimum quantity lubrication (MQL). MQL incorporates extremely accurate spray equipment to place minute amounts of concentrated lubricants to the cutting tool/workpiece interface to maximize tool life and provide a near dry environment. Applications include sawing, machining, forming, piercing and stamping.

As part of a joint research project, the companies Blaser Swisslube and KAISER have searched for the optimal combination of tool and metalworking fluid for titanium cutting. The results are impressive.

Master Fluid Solutions announces TRIM MicroSol 455, a low-foam semisynthetic, microemulsion coolant that is optimized for the high-volume cast iron, ferrous and some aluminum and nonferrous metalworking operations. MicroSol 455 prevents leaching of elemental iron and eliminates clinkering and oxidation of ferrous microfines.

The Surface Treatment global business unit of the Coatings division of BASF, operating under the Chemetall brand, advances the standards with two new products, Tech Cool 35058 and Tech Cool 35037. These metalworking coolants join the innovative and award-winning Tech Cool line of metalworking fluids for metal fabricators.

The metalworking fluids market is diverse and includes giant multinational players to medium-scale companies as well. The MWF industry has some chief global players, including Total, Lubrizol Corp., The Dow Chemical Co., Apar Industries Ltd., ExxonMobil, Castrol Ltd., Henkel, PPG Industries, Royal Dutch Shell PLC and Sinopec.

Vomat systems for filtering oils and removing ultrafine particles that result from grinding, honing, lapping and eroding are available from oelheld U.S. Inc. The automatically controlled filter backwash process is activated only on demand and fully separates contaminated and clean oil.
