KenTIP FS Modular Drill

Some good ideas can be made even better. Much better. This was certainly the case when Kennametal engineers took the strength and versatility of their proven KSEM modular drill system and combined it with the ease of use and low feed forces of its smaller companion drill, KenTIP, the company reports. The resulting fusion of these advanced holemaking technologies is the KenTIP FS, a 6 mm to 26 mm, 1.5 to 12 x D modular drill that's simple to use, produces good hole quality, and is tough enough to compete with solid-carbide drills across a wide range of materials.

APS-438 Air Powered Saw and WrapTrack Trolley

A saw and track system for accurately cutting pressure vessels up to 60" in diameter in preparation for hydrostatic testing and complete fabrication is being introduced by Esco Tool. The Esco APS-438 Air Powered Saw and WrapTrack trolley lets operators rapidly cold cut vessels from 6" to 60" in diameter with ±1/16" accuracy to permit better bevels for subsequent welding.

Magic Drill DRV

Kyocera announced that it has developed a new line of indexable modular drills, Magic Drill DRV, to be used mainly for hole drilling in the machine tool business. Ideally suited for the automobile, aviation and medical device industries, the new indexable drills combine a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) coated insert on the outer edge and a physical vapor deposition (PVD) coated insert on the inner edge for the first time, enabling high-speed and high-efficiency processing.

2017 U.S. cutting tool consumption up 7.1%

July U.S. cutting tool consumption totaled $170.95 million according to the U.S. Cutting Tool Institute (USCTI) and AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. This total, as reported by companies participating in the Cutting Tool Market Report (CTMR) collaboration, was down 8.4% from June's $186.57 million and up 16.0% when compared with the total of $147.43 million reported for July 2016. With a year-to-date total of $1.266 billion, 2017 is up 7.1% when compared with 2016.
