This expansion includes two new TCL18 inserts with 1.75 mm and 2.5 mm thicknesses, expanding the existing line of 1.5 mm, 2.0 mm, and 3.0 mm inserts. The inserts are available in grade AH7025, a nano-multilayer PVD coating with high-aluminum content that provides hardness and adhesion to the grade for better process security during grooving operations.

The two new machines, models MTV 1000 and MTV 1250 offering 8,000 rpm/700 ft lbs. of torque and 4,500 rpm/1,200 ft lbs. plus 200 bar/3,000 psi high pressure coolant for integrated turning, are joining the STC-MTV family of horizontal machining centers.

Due to the small sizes of these boring heads, the digital display will no longer be present on the head itself, rather the adjustment value will be shown on a separate mobile device or tablet that has the BIG KAISER App installed. Once connected to the head, the App also can be used to set the target diameter and tolerance. This information will stay assigned to the specific head connected until it is changed by the operator. Along with the last measured cut information (entered by the operator each time an adjustment needs to be made), the App can show the adjustment required to get the head set to the target diameter. n

Chamfering the entry and exit of 0.80mm to 6.00mm holes can be a tedious, time-consuming process. The Noventa from Sphinx can transform this process using an innovative geometry that improves cycle time, tool life and surface quality.

The EWA68 boring head has a travel range of .866" on diameter, and with the smallest insert holder, it covers the range of Ø2.677-3.543". This means that similar-sized bores on the same part could be produced with a single boring head. With the addition of two larger insert holders, the range can be extended up to Ø5.197".

The Nirox geometry has a degressive helix angle equal to 30 degrees at the point and is designed for accurate and precise hole location up to 9xD. With the special flute geometry, the chips (swarf) are evacuated effectively. This means that hole depths of up to 12 x Dc can be easily achieved. Oil or emulsion can both be used as a coolant with these drills. For deeper holes beyond 8 x Dc, Walter has also introduced a corresponding line of pilot micro drills, the DB131.

The new version of the solid carbide plunge mill is based on the same technology as the short version, transferred directly to the new one. Now it is possible to plunge perpendicularly into the material and reach the maximum milling depth of 5 x d in a few steps. Despite its length, the milling cutter is extremely stable and at the same time impresses with its cutting speeds, chip removal rates as well as a long tool life and surface quality, all this from a milling diameter of one millimeter (.039").
