ITAMCO pushes the innovation envelope
It's fitting that "Technology" is part of Indiana Technology and Manufacturing Cos.'s name. In addition to providing a full slate of machining and assembly services, ITAMCO created what it says is the first industrial Bluetooth transmitter (called iBlue) and continues to develop a broad range of manufacturing apps for mobile devices and Google Glass. What's more, ITAMCO has produced a virtual manufacturing showroom and developed a manufacturing forklift simulator that allows users to interact with factory equipment using the MTConnect protocol, Autodesk Factory Suite, Unity 3D game development platform, Oculus Rift virtual-reality headset and Leap motion controller.

Get With The Program: Barrel-cutter CAM strategies
Barrel cutters are applied for specialized milling applications, and recent advancements in CAM software expand the use of these tools. Geometrically, a barrel cutter has a large cutting radius on its side that closely matches the curvature of a part's surface and allows a large step-over between passes. The result is cycle-time reductions of up to 90 percent when finishing while imparting fine surface finishes.

Mastercam 2017 released for public testing worldwide
Mastercam 2017 is now in public beta, which means the next version of the software is available for testing by "currently maintained" Mastercam customers, according to a recent news release from CNC Software. "Shops all over the world, from small job shops to Fortune 100, get a chance to test Mastercam 2017 before it is released, and provide valuable feedback that helps shape the final product," the company announced. "Participants in the Public Beta get an early look at the new streamlined workflow and optimized interface that Mastercam 2017 delivers, along with dozens of powerful new tools for simple to complex jobs."

Gilman Precision debuts Web-based product design tool
Gilman Precision, Grafton, Wis., recently launched a web-based product configuration tool Intended to improve the process of viewing and adjusting product specifications. The Gilman 3D Linear Products CAD Configurator will serve engineers and other prospects by allowing them to select, view and insert Gilman 3D CAD models and 2D drawings directly into their own CAD systems, according to the company.

Vero Software today appointed Jessica Woodall as the England-based company's sales director for Latin America, according to a company news release. Woodall, who has worked in the CNC industry for 22 years, has served as the Alphacam director of sales and services in the Americas for the past 16 years. During that time, the company noted, Woodall helped to build a strong and talented team.
