HY-PRO-CARB Drills

December 01, 2013

OSG Tap & Die (OSG) announces the addition of 8D sizes to its HY-PRO-CARB drill series offering. OSG's HY-PRO-CARB drills are for a multitude of materials. Their unique point and flute geometry reduce thrust forces and chip size. Higher feeds and metal removal rates may be achieved with the addition of coolant-through capabilities.

The series' applied multi-layered TiAlN coating resists thermo-cracking from heat, thus improving wear resistance over conventional coatings. Lastly, the common DIN shank sizes not only improve rigidity, but also reduce the number of tool holders needed to accommodate them.

The HY-PRO-CARB drill series consists of 3D and 5D sizes in both solid and coolant-through, and 8D in coolant-through only.

Related Glossary Terms

  • shank

    shank

Main body of a tool; the portion of a drill or similar end-held tool that fits into a collet, chuck or similar mounting device.

  • tap

    tap

Cylindrical tool that cuts internal threads and has flutes to remove chips and carry tapping fluid to the point of cut. Normally used on a drill press or tapping machine but also may be operated manually. See tapping.

  • titanium aluminum nitride ( TiAlN)

    titanium aluminum nitride ( TiAlN)

Often used as a tool coating. AlTiN indicates the aluminum content is greater than the titanium. See coated tools.

  • wear resistance

    wear resistance

Ability of the tool to withstand stresses that cause it to wear during cutting; an attribute linked to alloy composition, base material, thermal conditions, type of tooling and operation and other variables.
