KFA 1500 Filtration System

Many segments of the metalworking industry require cooling lubricants with high purity (NAS 7/8 or 3-5 µm). With the KFA 1500, the machine manufacturer VOMAT provides a highly efficient, low-maintenance ultrafine filtration system for tool manufacturers and regrinders that promises optimal quality even with very large batch sizes.

Steffen Strobel, technical sales manager at VOMAT: "With a tank volume of 10,000 liters and a filter capacity of 1,500 liters per minute, the KFA 1500 is optimally designed for large batch sizes. Modern, low-maintenance and user-friendly technology ensure energy-efficient full-flow filtration in which clean and dirty oil are separated 100 percent. Modern high-performance precoat filters maintain filtration quality to NAS 7 specs (3-5 µm) for a very long time."

VOMAT filter systems backflush on demand. This means that backwashing is automatically initiated for each individual filter element depending on the degree of contamination. The other filter elements ensure a continuous supply of clean oil during this time. This ensures that not only can filters and grinding oil remain in the system for a very long time, but also that the system is very energy-efficient.

The cooling performance in the cold water circuit of the KFA 1500 is 200 kW at a constant 240° C oil temperature in continuous operation. A temperature accuracy in the tolerance range to +/-0.2° K contributes to optimal product quality. Optionally, VOMAT offers compressor chillers with external condensers and high control accuracy.

Due to the precoat principle there is no swarf contamination of the filter elements. The residual moisture of the swarf is less than five percent. The recyclable material can be disposed directly into containers provided by the recycling company.

Everything is monitored by sophisticated control technology that can also be controlled and operated remotely for maintenance purposes. Strobel said: "Our many years of experience guarantee the tool manufacturer or regrinder success in HSS grinding. If the tool manufacturer uses state-of-the-art grinding technology in his plant, then our filtration technology with its high control accuracy gives him the security of producing consistent, high-quality tools combined with outstanding process reliability. A wide range of options makes the VOMAT KFA 1500 filtration system extremely flexible. VOMAT systems can be easily adapted to a client’s needs and integrated into the workflow.

  • grinding

    grinding

Machining operation in which material is removed from the workpiece by a powered abrasive wheel, stone, belt, paste, sheet, compound, slurry, etc. Takes various forms: surface grinding (creates flat and/or squared surfaces); cylindrical grinding (for external cylindrical and tapered shapes, fillets, undercuts, etc.); centerless grinding; chamfering; thread and form grinding; tool and cutter grinding; offhand grinding; lapping and polishing (grinding with extremely fine grits to create ultrasmooth surfaces); honing; and disc grinding.

  • high-speed steels ( HSS)

    high-speed steels ( HSS)

Available in two major types: tungsten high-speed steels (designated by letter T having tungsten as the principal alloying element) and molybdenum high-speed steels (designated by letter M having molybdenum as the principal alloying element). The type T high-speed steels containing cobalt have higher wear resistance and greater red (hot) hardness, withstanding cutting temperature up to 1,100º F (590º C). The type T steels are used to fabricate metalcutting tools (milling cutters, drills, reamers and taps), woodworking tools, various types of punches and dies, ball and roller bearings. The type M steels are used for cutting tools and various types of dies.

  • metalworking

    metalworking

Any manufacturing process in which metal is processed or machined such that the workpiece is given a new shape. Broadly defined, the term includes processes such as design and layout, heat-treating, material handling and inspection.

  • swarf

    swarf

Metal fines and grinding wheel particles generated during grinding.

  • tolerance

    tolerance

Minimum and maximum amount a workpiece dimension is allowed to vary from a set standard and still be acceptable.
