In a field study on an aluminum cylinder head, the application of the extended drill was able to achieve a tool life of 2,000 parts per drill when machining holes of 8 mm diameter at 5,000 RPM in the cut and a feed rate of 1200mm/minute. Prior to the deep hole gundrill operation, there were two twist drill passes with the gundrill connecting the center portion of this feature in the head.

The Star AR solution is designed for ease of use. Customers may either rent AR glasses from Star Cutter or purchase their own set. When an incident occurs, an AR session is initiated through a service request and the connection made via wireless technologies. With the new feature for creating generic revolved tools, operators can customize the shape of the cutting and non-cutting parts of the tool for all triangle mesh-based roughing strategies. Customized tools avoid over-simplifications because they take specific features of the tool shape into account during the toolpath calculation to deliver a realistic simulation of the material removal process.

The drills are coolant-through, straight flute (G-drills), with emulsion or oil and coolant pressure of 145-580 PSI (10-40 bar).
