Prepzilla Millhog ID Clamping End Prep Tool

A heavy-duty ID clamping pipe milling end prep tool that can J-prep bevel, face and bore all hard pipe alloys in preparation for orbital welding is available from ESCO Tool. The Esco Prepzilla Millhog ID clamping end prep tool is offered with a wide selection of cutting blades, including a J-preparation blade that creates a consistent contoured radius and clean neck for orbital welding.

Capable of producing thick chips without cutting fluids for fast fit-up and high-integrity welds, it bevels all popular highly-alloyed pipes and one mandrel with eight sets of clamps covers the entire range of the tool.

Suited for heavy-wall pipe from 1.575” ID to 8.625” OD, the Esco Prepzilla Millhog ID clamping end prep tool features dual-opposed tapered roller bearings, direct-drive gears, a rigid blade lock system and TiN-coated T-15 tool steel cutter blades with a proprietary chipbreaker that transfers heat away from the pipe surface. Interchangeable pnuematic, electric and hydraulic motors are offered.

    alloys

Substances having metallic properties and being composed of two or more chemical elements of which at least one is a metal.

  • chipbreaker

    chipbreaker

Groove or other tool geometry that breaks chips into small fragments as they come off the workpiece. Designed to prevent chips from becoming so long that they are difficult to control, catch in turning parts and cause safety problems.

  • gang cutting ( milling)

    gang cutting ( milling)

Machining with several cutters mounted on a single arbor, generally for simultaneous cutting.

  • inner diameter ( ID)

    inner diameter ( ID)

Dimension that defines the inside diameter of a cavity or hole. See OD, outer diameter.

  • mandrel

    mandrel

Workholder for turning that fits inside hollow workpieces. Types available include expanding, pin and threaded.

  • milling

    milling

Machining operation in which metal or other material is removed by applying power to a rotating cutter. In vertical milling, the cutting tool is mounted vertically on the spindle. In horizontal milling, the cutting tool is mounted horizontally, either directly on the spindle or on an arbor. Horizontal milling is further broken down into conventional milling, where the cutter rotates opposite the direction of feed, or “up” into the workpiece; and climb milling, where the cutter rotates in the direction of feed, or “down” into the workpiece. Milling operations include plane or surface milling, endmilling, facemilling, angle milling, form milling and profiling.

  • outer diameter ( OD)

    outer diameter ( OD)

Dimension that defines the exterior diameter of a cylindrical or round part. See ID, inner diameter.
