MSC Filtration Technologies now offers a standard line of Tramp Oil Separators (TOS) providing extended coolant sump life by removing liquid and solid contaminants that cause coolants to lose their effectiveness. The proven design allows for removal of tramp oil and solids suspended in the oil for improved tool life, reduced coolant purchases and disposal costs.
Constructed of carbon steel with no internal moving or disposable parts for low maintenance, the TOS units are available as machine mountable, floor mounted and portable to serve multiple machines. Units are equipped to operate as continuous automatic or manual batch oil drain, depending on customer requirements. Models offered have flow rates of 3 and 6 GPM. Custom designed units are also available.
Related Glossary Terms
- coolant
coolant
Fluid that reduces temperature buildup at the tool/workpiece interface during machining. Normally takes the form of a liquid such as soluble or chemical mixtures (semisynthetic, synthetic) but can be pressurized air or other gas. Because of water’s ability to absorb great quantities of heat, it is widely used as a coolant and vehicle for various cutting compounds, with the water-to-compound ratio varying with the machining task. See cutting fluid; semisynthetic cutting fluid; soluble-oil cutting fluid; synthetic cutting fluid.
- tramp oil
tramp oil
Oil that is present in a metalworking fluid mix that is not from the product concentrate. The usual sources are machine tool lubrication system leaks.
