TungSpeed-Mill series expanded

Tungaloy Corp. recently expanded its TungSpeed-Mill series with new small-diameter, close-pitch cutters designed for precision machining applications. The expanded lineup includes bore-type cutters in three sizes: ø40 mm (z=8), ø50 mm (z=10) and ø63 mm (z=14).

The new cutters feature a steel body construction that balances weight reduction with structural integrity. This design enables the tools to remain under the 3 kg weight limit (including arbor) required for BT30 machine compatibility. The lightweight construction makes these tools particularly suitable for smaller machining centers while maintaining the necessary rigidity for precise cutting operations.

The cutting tools are specifically engineered for machining aluminum alloys and non-ferrous materials, and are suitable for applications in automotive components, aircraft parts and electronic enclosures. The close-pitch design distributes cutting forces more evenly across multiple cutting edges, contributing to more stable machining operations.

The TungSpeed-Mill series, which spans diameters from 40 mm to 160 mm and features up to 34 cutting edges, can achieve cutting speeds of more than 3,000 m/min when machining aluminum alloys and non-ferrous alloys. This expanded range addresses the increasing demands in automotive and industrial machinery sectors for higher-speed, precision machining of components such as valve bodies, aluminum alloy cases and pneumatic equipment housings.

The development of these tools responds to industry requirements for efficient machining solutions that can operate effectively on smaller machine platforms while delivering high-precision results. The combination of close-pitch design and optimized weight characteristics makes these tools particularly valuable for shops looking to enhance their machining capabilities on compact BT30 machines.

Related Glossary Terms

  • alloys

    alloys

Substances having metallic properties and being composed of two or more chemical elements of which at least one is a metal.

  • aluminum alloys

    aluminum alloys

Aluminum containing specified quantities of alloying elements added to obtain the necessary mechanical and physical properties. Aluminum alloys are divided into two categories: wrought compositions and casting compositions. Some compositions may contain up to 10 alloying elements, but only one or two are the main alloying elements, such as copper, manganese, silicon, magnesium, zinc or tin.

  • centers

    centers

Cone-shaped pins that support a workpiece by one or two ends during machining. The centers fit into holes drilled in the workpiece ends. Centers that turn with the workpiece are called “live” centers; those that do not are called “dead” centers.

  • precision machining ( precision measurement)

    precision machining ( precision measurement)

Machining and measuring to exacting standards. Four basic considerations are: dimensions, or geometrical characteristics such as lengths, angles and diameters of which the sizes are numerically specified; limits, or the maximum and minimum sizes permissible for a specified dimension; tolerances, or the total permissible variations in size; and allowances, or the prescribed differences in dimensions between mating parts.
