Marposs Corp.

Marposs Corp., Auburn Hills, Michigan, a leader in measurement and process monitoring technologies, acquired Aeroel SRL, Pradamano, Italy, a designer and manufacturer of high-accuracy laser micrometers and laser gages for noncontact diameter measurement and control. Main markets include the wire, appliance, aerospace, automotive and oleodynamics manufacturing industries where the technologies are applied to assure dimensional consistency and product quality, helping to improve process efficiency while reducing scrap and manpower.

For the machining sector, there are automatic laser solutions suitable for measuring diameters, lengths, roundness, taper and run-out of cylindrical sections of turned, or ground cylindrical components such as motor shafts, hard metal blanks, drill bits or cutting tools

“The Aeroel offering will be integrated into the Marposs brand of measurement and inspection offerings, extending our market reach into new areas such as plastic extrusion of tubes, rods, cables, etc. and copper wire enamel coating,” said Gary Sicheneder, Marposs manager, new market development.

These laser gauges and micrometers feature patented technologies that make them highly accurate and reliable as they are impervious to variations in temperature, vibration, product movement, dust and other environmental conditions that would normally influence measurement results.

Suitable for on-line or off-line application, the Aeroel products are typically merged into an automated solution by machine manufacturers or system integrators. Solutions are available for on-line and bench-top diameter measurement systems for machined products; measuring extruded products such as plastic pipe, profiles and electrical cables; dimensional control of round or shaped products in wire drawing; dimensional control of magnet wires; and detection of blisters in enamel coatings.
