Rush Machinery's FC-350W Wheel Truing and Dressing Machine

At this year’s Eastec trade show, Rush Machinery plans to display the FC-350W wheel truing and dressing machine with new accessories and functionality as well as the Auto-Cut carbide rod cut-off machine.

Eastec is scheduled for May 16–18, 2023, in West Springfield, Mass.

The company says that the FC-350W is designed for ease and efficiency in truing and dressing of flats, angles, and radii on diamond and CBN single wheels and multiple wheel packs. The FC-350W allows the user to dress the diameter, profile, and sides of the wheels without taking the wheel pack apart. The optional guarding has four clear acrylic pivoting sections that allow for easy access. A retrofit may be performed by a Rush service engineer if requested.

The machine also comes installed with RushVision, a software designed to make truing and dressing easy and customizable. RushVision aids in high precision, high tolerance work, and truing complex forms and radii up to 2” (50mm). The software includes drawing templates for most common wheel shapes and allows users to import from CAD via USB port or networked PC.

Also available for the 350W Wheel Truing & Dressing Machine is the On-Machine Balancing System Option. The balancing system is seamlessly installed onto Rush Wheel Truing & Dressing Machines. No separate screens or computers are required.

The company will also showcase the CNC “Auto-Cut” Carbide Rod Cut-Off Machine. The “Auto-Cut” can double the production rate for cutting carbide and hardened steel rod when compared with manual cut-off machines.

It has easy-to-use CNC controls with a touchscreen operator interface. Parameters can be quickly set for rod diameter and length. The machine automatically loads and cuts rods from a large-capacity magazine. The capacity of the “Auto-Cut” is .055” (1.4mm) to 1-9/16” (40mm) diameter carbide rod, up to 16” long, and it comes standard with a flood coolant system.

A new option for the machine available now is the Automated Tool End Cut Off. An adjustable clamping mechanism allows users to automatically cut tool ends and shanks of varying lengths while retaining the ability to cut rods. A short piece loader option is also available.

  • computer numerical control ( CNC)

    computer numerical control ( CNC)

Microprocessor-based controller dedicated to a machine tool that permits the creation or modification of parts. Programmed numerical control activates the machine’s servos and spindle drives and controls the various machining operations. See DNC, direct numerical control; NC, numerical control.

  • computer-aided design ( CAD)

    computer-aided design ( CAD)

Product-design functions performed with the help of computers and special software.

  • coolant

    coolant

Fluid that reduces temperature buildup at the tool/workpiece interface during machining. Normally takes the form of a liquid such as soluble or chemical mixtures (semisynthetic, synthetic) but can be pressurized air or other gas. Because of water’s ability to absorb great quantities of heat, it is widely used as a coolant and vehicle for various cutting compounds, with the water-to-compound ratio varying with the machining task. See cutting fluid; semisynthetic cutting fluid; soluble-oil cutting fluid; synthetic cutting fluid.

  • cubic boron nitride ( CBN)

    cubic boron nitride ( CBN)

Crystal manufactured from boron nitride under high pressure and temperature. Used to cut hard-to-machine ferrous and nickel-base materials up to 70 HRC. Second hardest material after diamond. See superabrasive tools.

  • dressing

    dressing

Removal of undesirable materials from “loaded” grinding wheels using a single- or multi-point diamond or other tool. The process also exposes unused, sharp abrasive points. See loading; truing.

  • tolerance

    tolerance

Minimum and maximum amount a workpiece dimension is allowed to vary from a set standard and still be acceptable.

  • truing

    truing

Using a diamond or other dressing tool to ensure that a grinding wheel is round and concentric and will not vibrate at required speeds. Weights also are used to balance the wheel. Also performed to impart a contour to the wheel’s face. See dressing.
