SW North America, a supplier of horizontal multi- and single-spindle CNC machining centers, automation, and complete system solutions, is hosting a 10-year anniversary celebration of its technology at its North American headquarters in New Hudson, Michigan, on August 25, 2023.

Those who register to attend can:

  • Experience a state-of-the-art facility tour, with large-scale machining and technology demonstrations across 33,000 square feet including SW’s electric vehicle (EV) technology information area
  • Witness and watch medical implant machining demonstrations, our 7-axis robot gantry solution TopRob7 in action, a completely automated production cell for firearms components manufacturing, dry-cycle linear motor machining at lighting fast speeds, and more
  • Learn about technologies in multi-spindle machining, linear motor technology, automation, and self-sufficient production cells
  • Hear from SW experts on how to overcome labor challenges, increase productivity, shorten cycle times, and accelerate electric vehicle (EV) productivity with linear motor machining technology, and learn about current job and apprentice program opportunities
  • Network with SW North America executives and engineers, and converse with key vendor partners like Haimer, Mapal, Marposs, Zeiss, and Zoller.

“We want to welcome the entire community to take part in this celebration with us,” said Kirk Stewart, General Manager Sales, Marketing and Life Services. “Since beginning North American operations in 2013, Michigan has been our home and our goal is to continue to be a leader in smart manufacturing solutions for years to come.”

Globally, SW has approximately 1,500 employees worldwide, with 92 based in Michigan, and has experienced revenue in excess of $535 million in 2022.

Technology that has helped fuel this growth will be on display across multiple industries, including:

  • Automotive and electric vehicles technology, like new machine sneak peeks, fully-electric vehicle battery trays, machining technology, and a BMW SP44 hybrid battery tray
  • Multi-industry machine showcase of BA W02-22, BA 322, BA 322i, BA W06-22, and the  BA W08-12, among others
  • Medical technology, including bone plate machining, bone plate bender, forceps, knee inserts, etc.

Stewart said, “We encourage those interested in smart manufacturing to come and view of some of the finest German engineering in Michigan today. Our vision since day one of SW North America has been to provide all North American customers a localized SW product and experience with exemplary service and support.”

Attendees will receive a free 10-year celebration t-shirt and SW North America swag. SW North America is located near the Milford Road exit of I-96.

Related Glossary Terms

  • centers

    centers

Cone-shaped pins that support a workpiece by one or two ends during machining. The centers fit into holes drilled in the workpiece ends. Centers that turn with the workpiece are called “live” centers; those that do not are called “dead” centers.

  • computer numerical control ( CNC)

    computer numerical control ( CNC)

Microprocessor-based controller dedicated to a machine tool that permits the creation or modification of parts. Programmed numerical control activates the machine’s servos and spindle drives and controls the various machining operations. See DNC, direct numerical control; NC, numerical control.

  • linear motor

    linear motor

Functionally the same as a rotary motor in a machine tool, a linear motor can be thought of as a standard permanent-magnet, rotary-style motor slit axially to the center and then peeled back and laid flat. The major advantage of using a linear motor to drive the axis motion is that it eliminates the inefficiency and mechanical variance caused by the ballscrew assembly system used in most CNC machines.
