The global manufacturer has added five variants of square shaped positive inserts for depths of cut up to 6.4 mm to its Pramet brand. The range is suitable for a variety of general engineering and maintenance and repair operations (MRO) machining, with several application-specific geometries and grades available for machining any workpiece material.

The lineup of products consists of three categories of tools. Supreme tools indicate the highest level of technology and performance available. Advance tools indicate products efficiently balanced between price and performance and Perform tools are products that provide an economical solution with focused importance on price.

Especially for milling aluminium alloys and plastics, Horn offers the indexable inserts with polished rake faces on all four edges from stock to counteract the formation of built-up edges. In conjunction with the positive chip breaker geometry, the sharp ground cutting edge produces a soft cut and high surface quality. The special grade is designed for use with the ISO N material group. The inserts can be used in all cutter body variants.

Thanks to significantly reduced friction, this new procedure improves chip removal from the machining zone, while the cutting heat is dissipated even more quickly and effectively through the chips. Temperature increases on the cutting tool and in the workpiece to be machined can be effectively reduced, as can material buildup and galling on the cutting edge. The procedure is suitable for coated and non-coated tools alike.

The basis for this innovative service is a dynamic stiffness analysis of the machine tool. The physical optimization phase (known as the 'tap test') can be accomplished with impulse hammers and accelerometers from Kistler; this is followed by an analysis of the customer's NC program, performed with new software from Productive Machines. All the acquired data is then processed to create a new NC program which, once installed, ultimately leads to better cutting performance, longer tool lifetimes and higher OEE – to name just a few benefits.

The MA230 Advance solid carbide milling cutting is for universal machining of steel, stainless steel, cast iron and high-temperature superalloys (ISO P, M, K and S workpiece groups) at the highest level. The MA230 Advance cutter is for high-performance roughing and finishing and enables reliable milling with an extremely high metal removal rate. The MA321/MA320 Advance solid carbide milling cutters were also developed for machining ISO P, M, K and S workpieces.

The HM geometry has a highly negative and narrow T-land, as well as a positive rake to reduce vibration and enable a smoother cutting action. Together, these improve the durability and process security, prolonging tool life in the relevant materials by up to 50%, compared to the existing assortment.

The WKK25G grade is a true specialist when milling today's cast irons (ISO K material group), such as ductile cast iron. Specifically, the grade is ideal for unfavorable milling conditions, such as interrupted cuts, and for wet machining applications. The grade meets the most stringent requirements for process reliability, particularly in the automotive industry, and is suitable for highly abrasive workpiece materials.

The metric VariMill Chip Splitters feature a design that actively controls chip size resulting in easier chip evacuation in deep cavities. The end mills include five- and seven-flute configurations from 8mm-20mm metric standard diameters. The five-flute tool maximizes performance in steel materials while the seven-flute tool excels in stainless steel and high-temperature alloys.

The peripherally ground insert offers improved wall accuracy and straightness and creates a true 90° corner. The LNEX12 also featuring a patented U-groove segment on all four cutting edges which provide a good surface finish and expand its application range to low-power machines and small depths of cut. In addition, the two-sided design supports performance by making ramping possible.

It features friction reducing needle bearings and hardened jaw plates and vise bed. What makes the Palmgren line of Dual Force machine vises so unique that they are designed for precision part clamping as well as ideal for use in running production parts where datums, flatness and parallelism are key.

The latest Pramet range includes three variants of a 16-edged ONMX insert for depths of cut up to 0.157" (4mm). The standard geometries include the F for light operations, M for versatile use, and R for rough cuts in a variety of materials. Additionally, the 8-edged ONMX-W is a specific wiper insert for high-quality surface finish with large cutters and high feed rate.
