The new cylindrical modular interface makes it easy to change existing copy, chamfer and shoulder milling tools, with no need to invest in new adaptors. It is easy to assemble and dismantle. Plus, the cylindrical centering reduces runout while providing a support face for good stability. The advanced design of YG-1's FM10 PNMU inserts separates the cutting edge and the wiper, resulting in 10 true cutting edges. Another feature – the 36⁰ entry angle – successfully generates thinner chips, providing operators higher feed capabilities. The curved cutting ridge and wiper design is engineered to reduce cutting forces and directs these forces axially along the strength of the machining center into the spindle.

YG-1 USA's new FM10 PNMU face milling platform, which is featured in this brief video demonstration, combines multi-corner face milling performance with high-feed capabilities.

Key features include four insert sizes, grades for all materials, three different cutting-edge preparation options, super strong radius high feed insert geometry, fine and coarse pitch cutters. The 4mm, 6mm, 9mm and 11mm inserts offer depth of cut ranges of .5mm, 1mm, 1.5mm and 2mm, respectively.

Resulting in simplified programming and increased process reliability, hyperMILL® VIRTUAL Machining NC code-based machine simulation has also been enhanced. Within the VIRTUAL Machining Optimizer module which links individual part programs with smooth and safe connections, the cutter is able to remain close to the workpiece, violations of the axis limitations are now detected and movement sequences are optimized accordingly. There is also a new option in VIRTUAL Machining to apply a special approach and retract strategy to machines where the cutting tool can be retracted into a tunnel.

With 3D printing, there is about a 30% reduction in tool weight, yet it has the equivalent torsional stiffness of a steel ground body tool. Lightweighting can play a big role in large, heavy tools that take a toll on the machine spindle, helping to reduce preventative maintenance. These improvements can be significant when producing aerospace and automotive components, including electric vehicle parts, where existing spindle interfaces are not always ideal for some of the size/weight of tools.
