Transor central oil filtration systems

Transor Filter USA offers a line of central oil filtration systems for tool and cutter grinders. The units can be expanded by adding a filter module that consists of three filter vessels, filter pump and plumbing. Model V9 can service up to 10 grinders, and the system can incorporate three additional machines by adding a module. The systems filter to a 1µm level, control oil temperature and automate sludge handling.

Abanaki’s SS mighty mini

The SS mighty mini is ideal for removing oil from machining centers and parts washers. The portable unit can service multiple parts washers and coolant sumps, avoiding the expense of multiple units. The belt picks up the oil, which is then scraped from both sides by dual wiper blades at a rate of up to 2 gph (7.6 lph).

A machine for dry grinding gears

Italy-based Samputensili S.p.A. unveiled a machine that eliminates the need for cutting oils when manufacturing gears, thereby reducing grinding costs. During grinding, oil-based lubricants cool the workpiece, as well as reduce friction and help evacuate chips. On the downside, however, oil use accounts for a significant amount of a grinding operation's total cost. Expensive equipment is required to supply, chill, catch and wash away oil in grinding processes. In addition, Samputensili estimates that oil-treatment equipment accounts for 75 percent of the energy consumed by a grinding machine.

CECOR, which manufactures the "Sump Shark" coolant sumpcleaners and industrial carts, announced Jan. 8 that Urso & Urso Inc. has acquired the Verona, Wis.-based company from the RuMo Group LLC. The transaction, accorinding to a CECOR news release, will provide the company with greater access to more opportunity and resources for future growth.

Occupational exposure risk warning

The American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH), Lansing, Mich., issued a reminder to workers and industry of the potential for exposure to microbial pathogens in metalworking fluids following a story in the Belfast Telegraph about metalworkers at a local shipyard who were diagnosed with pneumococcal disease. The workers are believed to have been exposed to aerosols containing the bacteria.
