Kyocera Precision Tools Inc. says positive-style inserts with its WP chipbreaker and a wiper cutting edge impart fine surface finishes at low cutting forces. The chipbreaker stabilizes chip conditions at low feed rates, controls excess chip breaking during high-feed and high-load machining and prevents tearing of the finished surface by controlling adhesion.

Sandvik Coromant recently introduced a new endmill for small diameters, the CoroMill 390 with size 07 inserts is said to be a versatile cutter ideal for shoulder milling, deep shoulder milling, edging, linear and helical ramping, plunge milling, slot milling and face milling, according to the company.

Seco, Troy, Mich., recently expanded the roughing and semi-finishing performance capabilities of its Secomax CS100 sialon ceramic grade inserts by adding inserts with T-style edge preparation to the line, according to a company news release. Featuring a free-cutting, sharp geometry, the new inserts are said to bring strength, stability and performance longevity to the machining of nickel-based superalloys in unstable conditions.

Tungaloy Corp. has introduced the AH8000 series of PVD grades and chipbreakers for turning heat resistant alloys. The new PVD grades feature impressive resistance to both wear and fracture due to the world's first nano-multi-layered AlTiN coating with high Al content and dramatically reduces notch wear, crater wear and built-up edge in machining heat resistant alloys.

Allied Machine & Engineering Corp, Dover, Ohio, recently announced updates to its Product Selector online recommendation tool, according to a Feb. 8 company news release. The web-based selector tool , which customers can use to find new tools to meet their needs or access critical data about their existing equipment, now includes more drilling products from the Allied catalog as well as several new optional machine constraints.

New Steel Cut Burs from PFERD Inc., Milwaukee, Wis., reportedly provide up to 50 percent higher stock removal rates for applications on steel and cast steel compared to conventional burs with double cut, according to the company. The company's high-performance line of burs are said to deliver a smooth, but aggressive operating action, generating large chips and very high removal rates.

PFERD Inc., Milwaukee, Wis., today introduced Cast Cut, a new line of high-performance carbide burs specially designed for work on cast iron. The burs, which are characterized by an extremely high stock removal rate, reportedly offer a smooth milling action that significantly reduces vibration and noise.

Dormer Pramet now offers Pramet SF and SM geometries for machining of high temperature alloys and stainless steel, the company announced Jan. 27. The SF geometry features a sharp positive geometry with an inclination cutting edge of 14.5° while the SM chip-breaker is a wear-resistant, universal geometry for medium machining.

Seco Tools LLC, Troy, Mich., introduced two new insert sizes to its family of 335.25 disc milling cutters, a line that is said to provide manufacturers with high flexibility and productivity. With the additions of XNHQ inserts in 9mm and 12mm sizes, the cutter now offers a range of cutting widths from 0.531" to 1.26" (13mm to 32mm) for an even greater variety of applications.

In a news release issued Jan. 16, Walter USA LLC, Waukesha, Wis., unveiled its P6005-WKK45C point drill insert that reportedly brings new levels of performance and cost effectiveness to drilling cast materials (ISO K) as well as other materials.

Seco has increased the application range of its wear-resistant TH1000 and TH1500 turning insert grades by adding new positive and negative geometries, chip breakers and nose radius sizes to the line. The additions allow manufacturers that process hardened steels, superalloys and cast irons to further increase their machining capabilities.
