Milling Cutters

The M4258 modular helical milling cutter from Walter, the most recent addition to its M4000 family of high-performance helical milling cutters, brings cost efficiency and excellent process reliability to slot milling, and can be used for ramping, pocket milling, shoulder milling and circular interpolation as well. Versatility also extends to materials, handling ISO material groups P, M, K and S.

Connecting rods are highly stressed engine parts. To take account of downsizing and the reduction of CO2 emissions, connecting rods are also becoming increasingly lighter. This is achieved on the one hand through the use of high-strength and innovative materials, and on the other hand through modern production processes. This also changes the shape of the connecting rods and the variety of shapes increases. MAPAL offers the complete process for machining different types of connecting rods – whether on the transfer line or the machining center, as well as for wet or MQL machining.

In November 2004, when LACH was awarded the German Innovation Prize for a newly developed technology for the cost and time efficient machining of aluminum components with a monoblock diamond cutter »dia-compact«, it was already said, "Nothing is more efficient than this … ." The new CSC (Curve Segment Cutting) CurveMax milling cutters from tool manufacturer Inovatools not only reduce processing times for finishing complex free-form surfaces in tool and mold construction, turbine blade production, and complex component geometries in general machine engineering, but also enhance surface quality compared with the full-radius mills previously used for these tasks.

MAPAL has introduced a milling program with pressed, radial ISO indexable inserts, thus completing the portfolio of standard milling tools. Up to now, the company has mainly focused on a milling program with ground, tangential ISO indexable inserts. These are used in particular for special applications, very large stock removal, unstable conditions or disc milling cutters.

Walter has introduced the Walter Prototyp ceramic milling cutters MC275/MC075. These two new tools deliver significantly increased productivity, cutting speeds and high metal-removal rates in the machining of nickel-based alloys.

Walter has introduced its ISO H Advance Line of solid-carbide milling cutters, consisting of seven new cutter families specially tailored to the requirements of hard machining (up to 63 HRC). These new cutters include mini and multi-flute, shoulder/slot, ball-nose and high-feed milling cutters, which cover the full range of solid-carbide milling.
