Manufacturer seeks cost-effective thread shafts with shorter lead times

With the new versions of the T2711 and T2712 thread milling cutters, Walter offers an indexable insert solution for small blind-hole and through-hole threads (≤ 2.5 × DN) in dimensions of M16, M18 and UNC3/4. It can be used in almost any material.

The next-generation CoroTap 100 and CoroTap 400, with optimized performance in aluminum, can meet very strict process security demands and offer a high level of reliability and consistent tool life. The CoroTap 100 straight flute tap features refined edge rounding that helps to remove burrs and improve surface finish. The CoroTap 400 forming tap has an optimized lobe shape developed for aluminum machining and a low friction-coefficient surface treatment for a smooth and polished thread surface finish.

The three performance levels encompass the product designations of T32 and T34 in thread cutting taps and T33 in forming taps. At the base level are universal general-purpose type taps. TC388 Supreme (50–58 RC) and TC389 Supreme (55–65 RC) feature new patent-pending cutting geometries that fully shear off the root of the chip when reversing, thus torque peaks are minimized. This prevents fractures, prolongs the tool life, and increases process reliability. Furthermore, the new taps are coated using Walters new HiPMS coating technology which creates a better surface finish, and higher thread form quality due to this innovative new coating process. Lubrication with oil, which was often necessary until now, is no longer required. Instead, standard water-based emulsions can be used, optimizing handling and saving additional machining costs.
