Thanks to their outstanding tool lives, fine surface finish and maximum concentricity, hydraulic chucks found their place in milling. And there is good reason since these chucks offer both continuous action of the cutting edge and excellent vibration-damping properties.

Doosan Machine Tools America presents the PUMA 1000/M, which was specifically developed for industries like oil and aviation that have the need to machine large-diameter parts. The latest model in the PUMA 1000 series incorporates a highly rigid live tool turret and machines large rings, flanges, shafts and pipes.

Seco continues to evolve and develop tooling solutions for the metalcutting industry. Two of the company's latest examples of that are its EPB 5831 slim hydraulic chucks (pictured) and ER-to-Combimaster holders.

The Hyperturn 200 Powermill high-performance milling-turning center from Emco is for machining large workpieces up to 1,000 mm in turning diameter and for lengths up to 6,000 mm, workpiece weight of 1,500 kg in the chuck and up to 6,000 kg between chuck and tailstock.

Seco has further expanded its selection of disc milling inserts and cutter bodies to meet customer demands for reliable, high performing cutters. With that, the company has introduced the 335.14 small-diameter exchangeable head system, 335.16 cutter for T-slot operations and cassette versions of its 335.25 cutter that incorporate round inserts.

Lexair's full-bore, fixed-length, self-contained collet chuck allows full-capacity spindle operation, due to elimination of the drawtube. When using the full bore chuck, spindle capacity is boosted as much as 30 percent, and clamping pressure is unaffected by centrifugal force, regardless of rpm, according to the company.

Arno Werkzeuge USA has expanded its Swiss-style program of cutting tools, holders, inserts and through-coolant systems for Swiss CNC auto lathes. Applications for Swiss auto lathes are known for their unique machining requirements for extremely long, thin, small parts with great precision and accuracy and, therefore, require very specific tooling.

Northfield Precision Instrument Corp. reported that when a customer requiring a highly specialized diaphragm chuck was not finding success with other chuck manufacturers, they turned to Northfield Precision Instrument. The chuck needed to be submersible for use in a wire EDM. To achieve this, the engineers at Northfield designed a specialized chuck with all non-stainless steel wetted parts.

Rockford Systems offers a line of electrically interlocked safety shields for cutting and turning machines that protect operators against flying chips, sparks, debris, and coolant. The electrical interlock prevents machines from starting until the shield is positioned safely in front of the hazardous area, also called the point-of-operation.

The induction shrinking station line-up from Pokolm Frästechnik has been expanded with the fully automatic station TSI11000WKS. The coil and arbor of the new stand-alone station move fully automatically thanks to a pneumatic drive. The 50-litre coolant tank ensures fast cooling of both the arbor and the cooling medium.

SCHUNK says its MAGNOS parallel pole, square pole, and radial pole plates ensure reliable workpiece clamping, quick workpiece changes, and particularly efficient processes in grinding applications. Among other things, SCHUNK MAGNOS square pole grinding plates boost productivity by up to 200 percent, compared to conventional solutions using parallel-pole technology.

Collet pad top jaw systems from Dillon Manufacturing Inc. can convert through-hole chucks to hold small bar and tube stock. Collet pads can be changed quickly maximizing production time, and the jaws can be adapted to many styles of chucks, making them ideal for special purpose function machining.
