Waterjet Cutting Machines

Hypertherm Associates’ OMAX plans to “put decades of advanced waterjet engineering expertise on display” at IMTS 2026 in Chicago from Sept. 14-19 at McCormick Place, booth #135020 in the East Building. Attendees can view live machine demonstrations for every machine and technology displayed in the booth to showcase how OMAX waterjets enhance cutting accuracy, efficiency, and flexibility compared to traditional cutting methods.

The OptiMax from Omax is an accurate, efficient, general-purpose cutting machine with improved automation.

Waterjet cutting works as simply as it is effective: the cutting head directs a fine jet of water at high pressure of up to 6,000 bar, a jet diameter of 0.38 to 1.02 millimeters. In this stress-free cutting process, the material particles close to the surface are cut off without any heat being introduced into the material.

The Finecut micro abrasive waterjet system brings the benefits of waterjet technology to the high precision fine mechanic segment. The Finecut is a premium precision machine with a positioning accuracy of +/-2.5 microns. It can cut minute parts of high complexity with a miniaturized cutting system capable of jet diameters down to 200 microns.

The Kennametal APX series of ROCTEC nozzles provide 20 percent greater life than the industry-leading ROCTEC 500 waterjet series, which already significantly outperforms other conventional tungsten carbide nozzles. The APX nozzles are suitable for use in precision cutting applications where long, uninterrupted cuts or close tolerances must be maintained for long periods to maintain part integrity or minimize expensive scrap due to premature nozzle failure.

OMAX's MAXIEM 1530 waterjet with multiple-axis cutting capabilities can be paired with an A-Jet cutting head. A cutting range from 0° to 60° off vertical, the A-Jet can easily cut beveled edges, angled sides, and countersinks. Advanced features in the Intelli-MAX software suite allow the A-Jet to compensate for taper and easily create complex 3D shapes.

OMAX offers the versatile 80X with Tilt-A-Jet taper-compensation technology. OMAX Corp.s 80X Series JetMachining Centers incorporate multiple table sizes and a customizable work envelope for precise abrasive waterjet cutting of large components and multiple-part projects.

OMAX Corp. expands its GlobalMAX pump options with a 10-hp pump for the GlobalMAX JetMachining Centers. Designed for educators, job shops, fabricators and manufacturers who need an economical, industrial abrasive waterjet, this new pump delivers 30,000-psi pressure to the cutting nozzle.

OMAX Corp. announced the release of the new ProtoMAX abrasive waterjet, a compact, self-installed cutting system suited for prototyping and relatively low-volume cutting of almost any material under 2" thick. The ProtoMAX brings all the versatility benefits of large abrasive waterjet cutters in a sleek and economic package that's suitable for small job shops, engineering classrooms, makerspaces and personal use.

OMAX Corp., a designer and manufacturer of CNC abrasive waterjet systems, has reportedly produced the world's most precise micromachining abrasive waterjet available with the assistance of a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF).
