Rani Tool Corp. offers German-made PCD inserts with CB3 chipbreakers from Becker Diamond Tools. The chipbreaker has a semiserrated wave profile on the flanks of the cutting point, which increases the material-removal rate and produces short, controlled chips. Manufactured by Kaiser Tool Co., the THINBIT GROOVE 'N TURN line includes Dovetail grooving inserts and Static O-Ring Grooves. The inserts are for machining O-ring dovetail grooves with 66° undercut angles. According to the company, the insert design is optimized for strength by using a left/OD and right/ID insert pair to generate the groove form. Static O-Ring Grooves are available in OD and face grooving styles.

Diamond Burnishing Tools

A cast iron shaft which started at a preburnished 67 Ra microinch surface finish yielded a 10 Ra microinch finish with a 0.0005" material compression in a single pass at 750 sfm.

Haas Automation recently expanded its drill, tap and mill product line with a pair of high-speed, lean-style machining centers—the DT-2 and DM-2—that reportedly provide the same high acceleration rates, fast axis speeds and short tool change times as their smaller brethren. Yet, the new machines offer an additional 8" (203mm) of X-axis travel and table length, with only a slight increase in footprint.
