Kennametal Inc.'s new technology, KAF82 TM, is an exclusive 10% cobalt, fully dense tungsten carbide grade designed for additive manufacturing and advanced metal-cutting tools. The company says it is the first additive manufacturing, fully dense tungsten carbide grade of its kind to be commercialized at scale and with proven performance for metal-cutting applications.

Kennametal Inc. launched a new 10% cobalt grade tungsten carbide that the company says is a "breakthrough in additive manufacturing" that enables the rapid production of custom carbide hole-finishing tools with advanced features such as optimized cooling channels and complex geometries.

Hitachi Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. plans to build a new $528 million transformer manufacturing facility in Gallman, Mississippi, creating over 700 jobs. The Mississippi facility will be the cornerstone of Hitachi Energy’s around $1.5 billion U.S. manufacturing expansion program, the largest in the industry, increasing domestic production of transformers and other critical grid infrastructure to meet rapidly growing energy demand across the country.

Shipments of cutting tools totaled $278.1 million in July 2026. The value of shipments increased 2.8% from June 2026 and was up 29% from July 2025, according to data from the Cutting Tool Market Report, a collaboration between AMT – The Association for Manufacturing Technology and the U.S.

The SolidMeisterPro series incorporates TiAlCrN silver composition PVD coating technology that the company says delivers excellent protection. The coating provides high thermal stability that handles higher temperatures and improves overall tool life.

Bartell Machinery has completed what it calls a "significant facility expansion" designed to support the company's continued growth, increase production capacity and deliver faster lead times for customers worldwide. "This expansion of our Rome, New York, production facility represents an exciting and important milestone for Bartell Machinery Systems," said Ben Lunduski, vice president of operations of Bartell.

According to the company, testing metal chips, turnings, swarf, coolants and process fluids under application-specific conditions can provide empirical data to guide equipment selection, scrap value improvement, volume-handling capacity and projected return on investment. PRAB says this approach can help manufacturers address rising disposal costs and environmental requirements, and recover more value from waste streams.
