CNC Software Inc., Helical Solutions LLC and Makino Inc. — a software developer, cutting tool maker and machine builder, respectively — share the results of their joint R&D project that began with an email introducing a new high-efficiency six-flute endmill with a chipbreaker.

As the name suggests, cutting taps produce threads by progressively cutting away the space between threads into which the fastener's external threads will fit. Forming taps, by contrast, remove no material. Instead, they move or displace material inside the hole to build up the threads and dig into the grooves.

The abrasive grain used in the Blue Moon TZ is very sharp-edged, microcrystalline and has an elongated trapezoidal rod shape. Blue Moon TZ grinding wheels are particularly impressive due to their very low thermal load in the contact zone. The combination of the micro-fracture properties of the new ceramic grain from Saint-Gobain Abrasives and the retention capability of the bond ensures long wheel life, excellent grinding efficiency, and consistent part quality with superior finish which results in cost savings of 30% and more.

Resulting in simplified programming and increased process reliability, hyperMILL® VIRTUAL Machining NC code-based machine simulation has also been enhanced. Within the VIRTUAL Machining Optimizer module which links individual part programs with smooth and safe connections, the cutter is able to remain close to the workpiece, violations of the axis limitations are now detected and movement sequences are optimized accordingly.

ISO-EcoTurn's GNMG and FNMG inserts each features a reduced nose angle of 70 degrees and 45 degrees, compared with traditional CNMG and DNMG inserts. The increased clearance on the cutting edge allows better chip flow and reduced chip re-cutting issues when face turning the wall.

The tight turning radius option on FlexMove Helix Conveyors allows for compact turns with a diameter of spiral measuring 1,000 mm (39.4") at centerline. The advantage this new tight turning radius option brings to customers and their facilities is even greater flexibility in layout for applications such as accumulation, buffering, cooling product and more.
