Many countries are moving to end the sales of fossil-fueled cars, and auto manufacturers are experimenting with electric vehicle technology to meet these requirements. The trend may have an impact on cutting tool sales, according to a new post by ANCA, a manufacturer of cutting tools.

ISO-EcoTurn inserts, while downsized for tool economy, incorporate the identical chipbreaker geometry and thickness of regular sized inserts to maintain the same cutting performance at a depth of cut up to 3.0 mm (0.12"). This expansion provides more cost efficient solutions in steel turning applications.

A thick titanium-rich PVD coating with excellent thermal stability has been developed specifically for AH62225. This coating effectively prevents crater wear from developing on the insert rake surface. The grade's top layer incorporates the latest titanium-rich nano-multilayer structure; its high-density crystal orientation enhances the grade's hardness for superior wear resistance.

This innovative insert seating substantially eliminates the tendency for vibrations, increasing insert life as well as tool holder life. The design also prevents incorrect engagement, especially for narrow insert widths, and enables an extremely high indexing accuracy. Elevated protective edge is an inbuilt feature of these DX18 carbide inserts that protects the clamping finger of the tool holder from chip-wash and acts as an additional chip breaker; further enhancing tool life and process reliability.

The innovative roughing geometry results in smaller chips and low cutting forces, and a reinforced corner chamfer promotes additional strength for longer tool life. Designed for semi-finish profile and center cutting, the multi-flute design is constructed of ultra-fine carbide grade CR3 for high cutting edge stability and wear resistance. The tools also feature a new generation of PVD coating for High Performance Cutting (HPC) applications.

Auto parts manufacturer SB Dezigns in North East, Maryland, has implemented a new end mill and chuck solution that helped them save 62% in costs on a recent application.

Available in diameter sizes starting at 4mm, these Star Cutter drills are manufactured from a selection of more wear-resistant carbide grades than typically used in these applications, resulting in longer tool life. Additionally, special bolt-hole circles and coolant hole sizes assist in eliminating OD aluminum build up and aid in flushing chips away from the workpiece. The drills are available with various advanced coatings, and/or highly polished carbide to eliminate build up and reduce overall tool wear.

The Type 11 cup wheels for grinders are precision balanced to ensure smooth, vibration-free operation and reduce operator fatigue, while wearing at the appropriate level to maximize grind rates. Designed for ID cleaning, hole-edge beveling, smoothing weld seams, bevel grinding, transitioning and grinding in hard-to-reach areas, the Tiger AO cones and plugs for die grinders feature an open-face design that provides an aggressive cut rate right out of the box.

Most importantly, they are punching square, rectangular and round openings not only in control cabinet doors and housings, but also in mounting plates, terminal boxes, cable ducts or cable routing plates. The three variants AP 600, AP 400 and AP 250 are suitable for processing switch cabinets or switch cabinet doors with a throat depth up to 600 mm, 400 mm, or 250 mm. Depending on the model, the punches can be used on sheet steel with a thickness between 2.5 mm and 3.0 mm. Stainless steel can be processed up to a thickness of 2.0 mm. In addition, the machines from the AP line are punching plastic up to a thickness of 4.0 mm.

VpCI-148 Paper also presents positive environmental aspects and a worker friendly profile. As paper, it is sourced from renewable materials, whereas common VCI plastics are sourced from fossil fuels. Furthermore, it uses a water-based coating for grease resistance, rather than the wax or poly coatings typically used for barrier papers. VpCI-148 Paper is non-hazardous and free of fluorochemicals, nitrites, phosphates, silicones, chromates, and other heavy metals.

The MC377 Advance, with protective chamfer, corner radii, and center cutting edge, can be used for chrome-nickel and steel materials, as well as titanium. The MD377 Supreme is a solid carbide milling cutter with a corner radius and central internal coolant engineered for titanium machining.
