EH Geometry
The stable cutting edge enables feed rates in the range of f = 0.25-0.4 mm/rev, during grooving and parting-off, which results in reduced machining time across multiple operations. Reliable chip evacuation and control is ensured by a special chip formation. High feed rates require a stable machine when grooving and parting-off, as well as secure clamping of the workpiece. Starting from a feed rate of 0.3 mm/rev (0.012"/rev), HORN recommends reducing the infeed for the first 3—4 mm (0.118"- 0.157") during grooving and parting-off.

TungCut Grooving Inserts
Two new grades have been added to TungCut to enhance its capacity in exotic materials: AH8005 insert grade, featuring strong coating adherence to its carbide substrate, eliminates notch wear that typically occurs during the machining of heat-resistant superalloys (HRSAs). New geometries include DGS inserts with 0.05 mm and 0.10 mm (.0002″ and .0004″) corner radii. These sharp cornered inserts allow lighter cutting and precision grooving/ parting-off of small parts advantageous in Swiss machine applications.

CAD/CAM software improves efficiency, expands capabilities
Sam Roberts has more than two decades of experience in programming and manual and CNC skills, but still remembers the day in 1999 when he was introduced to Mastercam CAD/CAM software (CNC Software Inc., Tolland, Connecticut). As a machinist proficient in G-code, Roberts was impressed with the software.

Secomax CW100 Ceramic Insert Grades
The CW100 grade expansion encompasses four new round insert formats with two geometries, E-01020 and T-01020, and four grooving insert geometries with widths of 3.175 mm (0.125"), 6.35 mm (0.25") and 7.925 mm (0.312"). An aluminium-oxide-based grade with silicon-carbide whiskers (Al2O3-SiC), the SecomaxTM CW100 grade not only boosts machining speeds in advanced HRSA materials, but it ensures stable and predictable tool life for the lowest possible cost per part thanks to the silicon-carbide whiskers, which use optimized micro geometries for the utmost in ceramic wear resistance and strength.

Walter Cut G2016-P/ UX Grooving System
Tangentially mounted grooving insert with a robust seating surface also ensures maximum stability. The insert and pocket design features an axial key stop for added stability against the side cutting (axial) forces. Precision cooling on the flank surface is offered as a standard feature for longer tool life. The chip breaker for the inserts is developed for heavy-duty machining to ensure short chips when cutting at maximum depth and when widening the grooves. n
