The stable cutting edge enables feed rates in the range of f = 0.25-0.4 mm/rev, during grooving and parting-off, which results in reduced machining time across multiple operations. Reliable chip evacuation and control is ensured by a special chip formation.

Two new grades have been added to TungCut to enhance its capacity in exotic materials: AH8005 insert grade, featuring strong coating adherence to its carbide substrate, eliminates notch wear that typically occurs during the machining of heat-resistant superalloys (HRSAs). New geometries include DGS inserts with 0.05 mm and 0.10 mm (.0002″ and .0004″) corner radii.

Cutting grooves is one of the more challenging turning operations performed by machinists. Many scrapped parts and broken tools later, Christopher Tate shares important lessons about grooving.

Sam Roberts has more than two decades of experience in programming and manual and CNC skills, but still remembers the day in 1999 when he was introduced to Mastercam CAD/CAM software (CNC Software Inc., Tolland, Connecticut). The CW100 grade expansion encompasses four new round insert formats with two geometries, E-01020 and T-01020, and four grooving insert geometries with widths of 3.175 mm (0.125"), 6.35 mm (0.25") and 7.925 mm (0.312").

KYOCERA SGS Precision Tools (KSPT) recently introduced a new suite of 8 Picatinny Rail form tools. The innovative designs are inspired from largely successful high performance end mills in the current SGS portfolio. The SGS Picatinny rail portfolio has been carefully designed for material specific applications to service the firearms industry.

This expansion includes two new TCL18 inserts with 1.75 mm and 2.5 mm thicknesses, expanding the existing line of 1.5 mm, 2.0 mm, and 3.0 mm inserts. The inserts are available in grade AH7025, a nano-multilayer PVD coating with high-aluminum content that provides hardness and adhesion to the grade for better process security during grooving operations.

Tangentially mounted grooving insert with a robust seating surface also ensures maximum stability. The insert and pocket design features an axial key stop for added stability against the side cutting (axial) forces. Precision cooling on the flank surface is offered as a standard feature for longer tool life.

Chamfering the entry and exit of 0.80mm to 6.00mm holes can be a tedious, time-consuming process. The Noventa from Sphinx can transform this process using an innovative geometry that improves cycle time, tool life and surface quality.

The SIGC series has been expanded to include Kyocera's unique "Excellent Bar" steel shank and carbide shank toolholder styles. Kyocera is also offering the SIGC in left-handed toolholder and insert styles to cover a wider variety of internal grooving applications.

The G4014-P groove turning holder makes it possible to change inserts in the machine – even where space is limited—in particular on long center lathes and multi-spindle machines. As a result, changing inserts is approximately 70% faster.
