Toolmaker Mazak Corp., Florence, Ky., will host a free MTConnect lunch-and-learn event for manufacturers on Thurs., Nov. 6, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at its Northeast Technology Center in Windsor Locks, Conn. The presentation will cover how MTConnect, an open-source, royalty-free manufacturing protocol, can improve the utilization of their equipment and boost productivity, according to the company.
Neil Desrosiers, Mazak applications engineer/developer and member of the MTConnect Technical Advisory Group, will present on how MTConnect exists to connect devices and systems from different suppliers to capture and share information in a common format. He will also highlight best practices for implementing the protocol in a manufacturing facility.
Additionally, attendees will experience the protocol at work in Mazak's North American Manufacturing Plant via a live-streaming demonstration. In 2013, the company converted its manufacturing facility to MTConnect to monitor the utilization of its individual machines and manufacturing cells as well as use it for error handling and cycle time validation.
