Multipassage Soft-Seal Rotating Unions

July 01, 2014

A new product line of multiple-passage soft-seal rotating unions is available from Deublin Co. Rotating unions are components in a broad range of equipment applications that require connection between stationary supply lines, and rotating equipment including cylinders, rolls, spindles and clutches.

While rotating unions are used to convey virtually all types of liquid or gas (steam, water, coolant, hydraulic or cutting fluids, inert gas or vacuum), multipassage rotating unions are used when more than one media must be conveyed simultaneously using different passages. Soft-seal refers to the Plastomeric seal technology, which is a combination of plastic and elastomer, with a proprietary chemistry and geometry that differs by application.

Applications for multipassage soft-seal unions include machine tools, ladle turrets used in steel continuous casting, and metal coil winding and plastic and rubber manufacturing.

Deublin offers standard, semicustom, and custom options depending on the requirements of each application. Standard features include 2-8 passages, while custom passages for the largest applications can be 22 or more. Port types include NPT, BSP, or SAE.

Related Glossary Terms

  • continuous casting

    continuous casting

Casting technique in which a cast shape is continuously withdrawn through the bottom of the mold as it solidifies, so that its length is not determined by mold dimensions. Used chiefly to produce semifinished mill products such as billets, blooms, ingots, slabs and tubes.

  • coolant

    coolant

Fluid that reduces temperature buildup at the tool/workpiece interface during machining. Normally takes the form of a liquid such as soluble or chemical mixtures (semisynthetic, synthetic) but can be pressurized air or other gas. Because of water’s ability to absorb great quantities of heat, it is widely used as a coolant and vehicle for various cutting compounds, with the water-to-compound ratio varying with the machining task. See cutting fluid; semisynthetic cutting fluid; soluble-oil cutting fluid; synthetic cutting fluid.
