Series PWW Industrial Water-to-Water Heat Exchangers

Manufacturing facilities utilize a vast array of equipment that is critical to maintaining uptime and production capacity. One broken link in this chain of apparatus can cripple the process and be the difference between profit and loss. For some devices and processes, maintaining ideal operating temperatures is necessary to avoid catastrophic failure and lost production. On the other hand, reducing plant operating expenses is always a pressure point, sometimes leading to ineffective, lower-cost solutions being deployed, which may ultimately compromise equipment longevity.

Liquid cooling is regarded as an efficient and economical method for removing heat from many types of processes. Plant water circulating through cooling towers, surface water from lakes and rivers, well water, and potable city water are all used for such requirements. However, this source water for cooling may be too cold or contaminated to be directly circulated to certain devices or vessels. Under these circumstances, a water-to-water heat exchanger can be used to overcome such obstacles.

To address this need, Pfannenberg has developed the Series PWW water-to-water heat exchangers. Although rather simple in concept, the units are designed with durable components to ensure the effectiveness and longevity of the critical cooling process at hand. Each unit offers two isolated water circuits: one on the supply side, and one on the process side. The demand side includes a coolant reservoir and a circulating pump. The process side includes an electronically actuated ball valve for modulating coolant flow rate in order to maintain the desired process and/or equipment temperature. Options include supply side filters for dirty water and high pressure pumps for long process side pipe runs.

Additional features include the following:

• Temperature controller with remote start/stop input

• Alarm output relay

• Two standard capacities: 24,000 W or 48,000 W

• Power required: 3 phase 400-460 VAC 50-60 Hz

• NEMA 3R electrical enclosure rating

• Galvanized steel cabinet with light grey polyester power coat finish 1" or 1-½"

• FNPT process connections

• Dry weight: 300 or 400 lb.

Typical applications for the Series PWW water-to-water heat exchangers include the following:

• Water-cooled variable frequency drives (VFD's)

• Water-cooled machine center spindles

• Water-cooled cameras and optical equipment

• Water-cooled laser and x-ray equipment Water-cooled chemical reaction vessels and chambers

    coolant

Fluid that reduces temperature buildup at the tool/workpiece interface during machining. Normally takes the form of a liquid such as soluble or chemical mixtures (semisynthetic, synthetic) but can be pressurized air or other gas. Because of water’s ability to absorb great quantities of heat, it is widely used as a coolant and vehicle for various cutting compounds, with the water-to-compound ratio varying with the machining task. See cutting fluid; semisynthetic cutting fluid; soluble-oil cutting fluid; synthetic cutting fluid.
