Fine filtered cooling lubricants represent an important cornerstone in tool manufacturing and are instrumental in achieving high tool quality quickly and economically. Tool manufacturers, who rely on the right technology and competence of their filtration system manufacturer, capitalize optimally on the many advantages offered by efficient coolant filtration.

MP Systems offers a new variable-volume, high-pressure coolant system (HPCS), the Model VR8. The VR8 is part of MP Systems' new Variable Volume VR series. The VR series is engineered to be durable and energy efficient. It also allows users to take full advantage of the flexibility and range of capabilities found in today's sophisticated machine tools.

According to those interviewed for this article, most shops wait far longer than they should to clean sumps because the job is such a hassle. Waiting too long, however, creates a host of problems.

In 2016, Eriez HydroFlow partnered with Milan, Italy-based Comat S.r.l. to bring SuperFiltration technology to North America, providing customers a long-awaited solution to remove particles down to 3-micron nominal from cutting fluid while maintaining a stable fluid temperature. EXAIR's new 1/2 NPT siphon-fed atomizing spray nozzle atomizes a variety of fluids in a round spray pattern where no liquid pressure is available and heavy application of liquid is needed. This corrosion-resistant type 303SS nozzle draws liquid into the airstream and mixes it internally while providing up to 24 inches of suction height.

Kurt's new KHP3 hydraulic pump is powered by normal shop air versus an electric motor. The pump uses 30 to 100 psi input pressure and sustains up to 4,000 psi of constant pressure for use with all Kurt hydraulic vises.

Tungaloy Corp. has expanded the TungTurn-Jet line, the turning tool system with high-pressure coolant capability. Until now, coolant was simply applied by flooding the cutting area, which can cause chips generated during machining to interfere with the coolant flow, preventing it from reaching the exact spot where needed. Tungaloy's TungTurn-Jet's high-pressure, double-jet coolant system delivers jets of coolant to the optimal position close to the cutting edge and increases productivity by forming short chips in machining difficult-to-cut materials like heat-resistant superalloys.

Because through-coolant toolholders eliminate the variances often experienced with external cooling nozzles, the additional cost of such holders, which is sometimes zero, can be easily justified through the reduction of cycle times and improvement of tool life and part quality.
