VB-1400/VB-1600/VB-2000 Vertical Machining Center

The VB-1400/VB-1600/VB-2000 vertical machining center from Cubic Machinery has a 10,000-rpm spindle, 24-tool automatic toolchanger and spindle oil cooler.

The high-speed spindle is a true cartridge type unit supported by P4 precision class high speed bearings, which are permanently grease lubricated to eliminate heat buildup. The spindle is driven by a high-torque FANUC spindle motor. Power is transferred through a heavy-duty, cogged drive belt, eliminating slippage, promoting thermal stability and minimizing vibration.

The spindle coolant system refrigerates and circulates cooling oil to maintain a constant temperature for high accuracy across different cutting conditions and ambient temperature.

The VMC features:

  • Four boxways on Y-axis to distribute heavy loads evenly
  • Turcite-B coating on all slideway surfaces
  • P4 precision class spindle bearings
  • C3 double nut, precision ground, large diameter ball screws on all three axes
  • Screw-type conveyor makes chip cleanup a breeze
  • Industry standard FANUC 0iM control
  • Spindle oil cooler to maintain constant spindle temperature
  • 100 percent laser-tested positioning accuracy
  • ISO 9001/2000 certified quality assurance

Related Glossary Terms

  • automatic toolchanger

    automatic toolchanger

Mechanism typically included in a machining center that, on the appropriate command, removes one cutting tool from the spindle nose and replaces it with another. The changer restores the used tool to the magazine and selects and withdraws the next desired tool from the storage magazine. The changer is controlled by a set of prerecorded/predetermined instructions associated with the part(s) to be produced.

  • coolant

    coolant

Fluid that reduces temperature buildup at the tool/workpiece interface during machining. Normally takes the form of a liquid such as soluble or chemical mixtures (semisynthetic, synthetic) but can be pressurized air or other gas. Because of water’s ability to absorb great quantities of heat, it is widely used as a coolant and vehicle for various cutting compounds, with the water-to-compound ratio varying with the machining task. See cutting fluid; semisynthetic cutting fluid; soluble-oil cutting fluid; synthetic cutting fluid.

  • machining center

    machining center

CNC machine tool capable of drilling, reaming, tapping, milling and boring. Normally comes with an automatic toolchanger. See automatic toolchanger.

  • quality assurance ( quality control)

    quality assurance ( quality control)

Terms denoting a formal program for monitoring product quality. The denotations are the same, but QC typically connotes a more traditional postmachining inspection system, while QA implies a more comprehensive approach, with emphasis on “total quality,” broad quality principles, statistical process control and other statistical methods.

  • toolchanger

    toolchanger

Carriage or drum attached to a machining center that holds tools until needed; when a tool is needed, the toolchanger inserts the tool into the machine spindle. See automatic toolchanger.
