Surface Finish on A36 Steel

ProvenCut recipe 586 struck a wonderful balance, machining a piece free of chatter and yielding an extraordinary finish using a YG-1 V7 PlusA six-flute endmill held in a Lyndex-Nikken SK16 collet holder. The 2D contour finishing operation was programmed with Autodesk Fusion 360 and run at 210 m/min. (690 sfm) at 0.015 mm feed per tooth (0.0006" feed per tooth) with a 0.203 mm (0.008") radial DOC and 63.5 mm axial DOC.

Solid Carbide Radius Fillet End Mills, CR-Supercut High Feed End Mills

The Solid Carbide Radius Fillet End Mills are configured for different radius filleting. Available with two, three and four flutes, they also feature a cylindrical shank DIN 6535 HA. The CR-Supercut High Feed End Mills are designed for high feed rates with shallow cutting depths for a wide range of materials up to 56 HRC. The CR- Supercut line is ideal for High Performance Cutting (HPC) in a variety of hard-to- machine materials.

Kyocera MEAS milling cutter demo

Kyocera Precision Tools Inc. has released a milling line for high-speed aluminum applications. The MEAS series is engineered with unique grooved insert pockets for added stability when machining at high speeds. Utilize simultaneous three-axis machining with a maximum ramping angle of up to 20°. MEAS allows a broad range of applications, from facing, shouldering, slotting and profiling to pocketing, ramping and plunging.

Illuminating aluminum demos

Presented as a video supplement to Cutting Tool Engineering's July 2020 article that addresses the need for part manufacturers to work with toolmakers to learn about the wide range of tool options available today, "Illuminating Aluminum" offers two machining demonstrations from LMT Onsrud LP, Waukegan, Illinois, and RobbJack Corp., Lincoln, California.

Full-diameter slotting of steel

ProvenCut recipe 551 shows how to achieve a high material removal rate while maintaining a reliable cut using a light-duty machine with a 6.35 mm (0.25") endmill to slot 4140 alloy steel.

The video, a supplement to our Shop Operations column in the June 2020 issue of Cutting Tool Engineering, shows the slotting operation in action. To learn more about when full-diameter steel slotting is the only option, read the related Shop Operations column.
