Women to play an increasingly important role in manufacturing industry

Narrow-Contour HTC Clamping Chucks

MAPAL has expanded its program of narrow-contour HTC (High-Torque Chuck) clamping chucks, whose narrow shapes are produced without a restrictive brazed joint thanks to additive manufacturing. These new chucks can directly clamp diameters of 3, 4 and 5 mm, also allowing hydraulic clamping chucks to be used on the microscale, for example in medical technology or the timepiece and jewelry industry.

s181 Mill-Turn Center

Bumotec has launched the s181 turn-mill center, a compact cost effective multifunction machine targeted at industries such as micromechanic, aerospace, medical and surgical instruments, as well as watch and jewelry. Derived from the well-known Bumotec s191 linear CNC turn-mill center, the new s181 is a 5- to 9-axis unit targeted at single-setup machining of complex and high-precision workpieces.

Carbide Microscale Endmills

Manufactured at its facility in Cleveland, Melin Tool launches a wide range of styles and sizes of carbide microscale endmills that target applications found in mold shops, medical component and instrument manufacturers, and EDM departments. With cutting diameters from 0.005” and lengths up to 30 diameters deep, Melin reports outstanding performance in titanium and aluminum alloys, graphite and steels and stainless alloys less than 40 HRC.

M800 and M80 Series CNC

Addressing the need for a fast, precise and affordable CNC for complex machining applications, Mitsubishi Electric Automation Inc. offers the M800 and M80 series CNC and components. The M800 is a high-grade CNC for high-speed, high-accuracy machining and multiaxis, multipart system control and features a fast CNC, while the M80 provides high productivity and easy operability.

QP5X-400 Vertical Machining Center

Chevalier's QP5X-400, a 40-taper, high-speed VMC that features 5-axis simultaneous or 4+1 axis applications. The standard machine is integrated with 2-axis, 12.6" trunnion table. The new QP5X-400 has better accuracy, more productivity, less manpower, less cycle time and higher profitability, according to the company. The machine is for high-speed, high-precision and high-productivity machining that is suitable for the aerospace, medical
and moldmaking industries.

InternalS121 Universal Grinding Machine

With regular new developments every 6 months, Fritz Studer AG says it has surprised users of internal cylindrical grinding machines in the last 2 years. What still appeared as a separate machine with the S141 universal machine (component length up to 1,300 mm) in May 2014 has evolved into a complete machine platform with the universal machines in the S141 and S151 series in autumn 2014, the S131 universal machine and the S122 production machine in spring 2015 as well as the S121 universal machine in autumn 2015.

pL LEHMANN swissClamp modular system

Exsys Tool Inc., which is the exclusive supplier of pL LEHMANN rotary tables for North America, recently announced the expansion of its ultra-high precision products to include the pL LEHMANN swissClamp modular clamping system, according to the San Antonio, Fla.-based company. The modular clamping system reportedly allows operators to mount multiple workpieces on machine tool tables for uninterrupted production and unmanned operations.

Machining process targets moldmakers and more

Imagine a machining process that removes material five times faster than milling and 10 times faster than sinker EDMing, machines Inconel and hardened steel with ease, holds tolerances to ±0.0006" and utilizes the same tool to process thousands of parts with virtually no tool wear. Machine builder EMAG LLC USA, Farmington Hills, Mich., calls this process pulsed electrochemical machining (PECM). A subset of electrochemical machining, PECM is far more accurate than the decades-old ECM and has matured into a viable alternative to more-traditional machining processes over the past few years, according to the company.
