Tokyo 2020 Olympics to feature medals made from recycled electronics

For the 2020 Olympics and Paralympic games in Tokyo, recycled electronics will be used to make the needed 5,000 medals. With new models of popular electronics like phones and tablets being introduced to the market frequently, the turnover rate for consumers is increasing, and the problem of electronic waste with it. In America alone, only 29 percent of electronics waste is recycled. Electronic devices contain various metals, such as platinum, palladium, gold, silver and cobalt.
