REGO-FIX introduced an expansion of its popular retrofit reCool system to include a version engineered to facilitate coolant-through operation on Swiss automatic machine tools.
The new system converts the standard Swiss tooling collet locking nut into a coolant-style nut that employs the new REGO-FIX MX nut design. Changing tooling involves simply loosening and removing the locking nut and supply piping.
Implementing and changing through-tool coolant in the restricted confines of a Swiss automatic machine has traditionally required working with coolant plumbing passing through the back of the machine tool block. The reCool system eliminates the need to work behind the tool block and thereby reduces setup and tool changing time. By sending coolant flow directly to the cutting edge, through-coolant operation benefits tool life and expedites chip removal.
Rated at 1,400-psi coolant flow, reCool for Swiss automatic machines will be available in ER 16 and ER 20 versions in the fourth quarter of 2014.

- collet
collet
Flexible-sided device that secures a tool or workpiece. Similar in function to a chuck, but can accommodate only a narrow size range. Typically provides greater gripping force and precision than a chuck. See chuck.
- coolant
coolant
Fluid that reduces temperature buildup at the tool/workpiece interface during machining. Normally takes the form of a liquid such as soluble or chemical mixtures (semisynthetic, synthetic) but can be pressurized air or other gas. Because of water’s ability to absorb great quantities of heat, it is widely used as a coolant and vehicle for various cutting compounds, with the water-to-compound ratio varying with the machining task. See cutting fluid; semisynthetic cutting fluid; soluble-oil cutting fluid; synthetic cutting fluid.
