Portfolio of Solid-Carbide Thread Mills

June 10, 2016

Niagara Cutter has launched a new portfolio of solid-carbide thread mills that bring strength and process reliability to a broad range of general-purpose machining applications. Overall, the portfolio comprises thread mills for the cost effective, highly accurate production of Unified, National Pipe Tapered and metric thread forms. With a vast selection of thread sizes, cutting diameters, cutting lengths, shank diameters and more, shops have well over 100 different tooling options from which to choose. All of the Niagara thread mills feature a standard AlCrN coating, but are also available with optional coatings of TiN, TiCN, TiAIN, AlTiN and CVD-diamond.

Niagara UN thread mills are ideal for flat-bottom holes and large-diameter applications where torque and horsepower requirements for taps are not available. Offered in standard, coolant-through and extended-reach options, these helical flute thread mills offer positive cutting action and are suitable for both internal and external operations.

The standard Niagara TM100UN thread mill comes in a full range of industry-standard thread sizes, with cutting diameters from 0.065" to 0.62" and cutting lengths between 0.125" and 1.375". The coolant-through TM120UN thread mill comes in various thread sizes, with cutter diameters from 0.134" to 0.62" and cutting lengths between 0.313" and 1.375". The extended-reach TM160UN comes in a variety of thread sizes, with cutter diameters from 0.134" to 0.62" and cutting lengths between 0.1" and 0.375".

Featuring a straight-flute design with 3- and 4-flute options, the Niagara TM200NPT thread mill offers eight different thread sizes and can handle both internal and external operations. Cutting diameters from 0.245" to 0.745" and cutting lengths between 0.4375" and 1.5" are possible via the thread mill.

The Niagara TM300NPTF thread mill has a straight-flute design with 3- and 4-flute options. It comes in seven different thread sizes and has cutter diameters that range from 0.245" to 0.62" and cutting lengths between 0.4375" and 1.125".

Available in thread sizes from M3 to M24, the Niagara TM400MI thread mill has a helical-flute design with 3- and 4-flute options that offer positive cutting action and are suitable for both internal and external operations. Cutting diameters for this tool range from 0.085" to 0.62" and cutting lengths are between 0.178" and 1.375".

  • milling machine ( mill)

    milling machine ( mill)

Runs endmills and arbor-mounted milling cutters. Features include a head with a spindle that drives the cutters; a column, knee and table that provide motion in the three Cartesian axes; and a base that supports the components and houses the cutting-fluid pump and reservoir. The work is mounted on the table and fed into the rotating cutter or endmill to accomplish the milling steps; vertical milling machines also feed endmills into the work by means of a spindle-mounted quill. Models range from small manual machines to big bed-type and duplex mills. All take one of three basic forms: vertical, horizontal or convertible horizontal/vertical. Vertical machines may be knee-type (the table is mounted on a knee that can be elevated) or bed-type (the table is securely supported and only moves horizontally). In general, horizontal machines are bigger and more powerful, while vertical machines are lighter but more versatile and easier to set up and operate.

  • shank

    shank

Main body of a tool; the portion of a drill or similar end-held tool that fits into a collet, chuck or similar mounting device.

  • titanium carbonitride ( TiCN)

    titanium carbonitride ( TiCN)

Often used as a tool coating. See coated tools.

  • titanium nitride ( TiN)

    titanium nitride ( TiN)

Added to titanium-carbide tooling to permit machining of hard metals at high speeds. Also used as a tool coating. See coated tools.
