Chicago-based Digital Manufacturing and Design Institute has opened enrollment for the first three of a planned 10 online "101"-style courses on manufacturing and design technology. Developed in partnership with the University at Buffalo and coordinated by The Center for Industrial Effectiveness for the Coursera online learning platform, Digital Manufacturing and Design Technology launches on Jan. 30. This is the first massive open online course (MOOC) specifically for the manufacturing industry, and includes 40 hours of instruction, assessments, peer interactions and a final project. While course content, including videos and readings, can be accessed at no cost, there is a $49/month enrollment fee to gain access to assignments and the opportunity to earn a specialization completion certificate.
