The L.S. Starrett Co. has introduced two new Bluetooth-enabled series of electronic digital bore gages with a range of accuracy and convenience features for increasing measurement throughput when inspecting internal hole dimensions. The 781BXT AccuBore electronic bore gages are a trigger-operated gaging system, and the 770BXT electronic bore gages, operated via thimble rotation, feature IP67 protection against dirt and coolant, making them ideal in harsh machining environments. Bluetooth wireless technology in both bore gage series enables fast, robust measurement data acquisition capabilities without the encumbrances and limitations of cables. Wireless technology also provides an ideal platform for manufacturers bracing to meet the comprehensive big data requirements of Industry 4.0.
AccuBore gages are a trigger-activated, two-point and three-point bore gaging system with extended range. Convenient single-hand operation provides increased measurement speed, control and throughput. A user simply squeezes the trigger, inserts the gage into the bore and releases the trigger, producing an instant reading from a large, easy-to-read digital display. Speed and convenience is further enhanced by a repositionable indicator for left, right hand, or vertical viewing and GO/NO-GO tolerance indicator lights quickly display when a bore is within a preset measurement range.
Superior design features include mechanically driven parallel anvils that extend simultaneously, establishing true alignment to the axis of the bore, providing consistent pressure and improved accuracy compared to spring-driven contacts, which are subject to pressure variations.
In addition to Bluetooth capability, the 770BXT electronic internal micrometers feature IP67 level of protection against coolant, water, dirt and dust in hostile shop conditions, making them ideal for measuring holes in work that is in-process on a machine.
The 770BXT gages offer extended travel, reducing the need to exchange anvils, providing a wide measurement range. A precision ratchet stop provides correct contact pressure for accurate readings on the large easy-to-read LCD digital display.
Both the 781BXT and 770BXT bore gages feature enhanced wear life due to carbide-faced measuring contacts that are available on sizes above ½" (12.5mm), resolution of .00005" (0.001mm), and accuracy of up to .00015" (0.004mm). Gages also feature push button inch/metric conversion. Wireless output capability for SPC analysis is available via USB to a PC or RS232 connection.
Related Glossary Terms
- coolant
coolant
Fluid that reduces temperature buildup at the tool/workpiece interface during machining. Normally takes the form of a liquid such as soluble or chemical mixtures (semisynthetic, synthetic) but can be pressurized air or other gas. Because of water’s ability to absorb great quantities of heat, it is widely used as a coolant and vehicle for various cutting compounds, with the water-to-compound ratio varying with the machining task. See cutting fluid; semisynthetic cutting fluid; soluble-oil cutting fluid; synthetic cutting fluid.
- parallel
parallel
Strip or block of precision-ground stock used to elevate a workpiece, while keeping it parallel to the worktable, to prevent cutter/table contact.
- statistical process control ( SPC)
statistical process control ( SPC)
Statistical techniques to measure and analyze the extent to which a process deviates from a set standard.
- tolerance
tolerance
Minimum and maximum amount a workpiece dimension is allowed to vary from a set standard and still be acceptable.
