The Tyrolit Group said it is expanding its production site in Stans, Austria, and investing 15 million euros in a new, highly innovative production line.

Tyrolit CEO Thomas Friess on the investment in the future said “The ground-breaking ceremony for the expansion of Plant 5 represents an important step for the site. We are investing in the technologies of tomorrow and are recognizing our roots in the region by expanding our production capacities."

The newly created area will provide space for new, highly innovative machines from autumn 2024. Furthermore, the plant expansion is just one of several initiatives within the EU including sites in Germany, Italy and Belgium were recently modernized or expanded.

1,700 square meters expansion of new production line
The global manufacturer of grinding and dressing tools already supplies large parts of the automotive industry with its grinding tools. Due to a new EU regulation coming into force, hard-coated brake discs, such as those found in electric cars, will soon become the new standard, said Friess.

Tyrolit breaks ground

"The aim of the EU regulation is to reduce the fine dust pollution caused by brake abrasion," said Matthias Kuprian, Tyrolit Board Member for Metal Industries. "The hard-coated brake discs required for this will be ground using high-tech grinding tools specially developed by Tyrolit, which will be manufactured at Plant 5 in Stans in the future. The expansion of Plant 5 will create space for a new, highly innovative, fully automated production line. This is our response to current developments and standards such as the Euro 7 standard, which makes new production technologies necessary and possible to safeguard our global competitiveness and location in Tyrol."

The high-tech, new production facility ensures less material wear and efficient processes when machining, pressing or loading and unloading the production units.

Tyrol as a technology center
The additional production systems make a significant contribution to securing regional jobs, the company said.

"Investments in Tyrol, such as those made by Tyrolit, make an important contribution to strengthening Tyrol as a center of technology and promote the sustainable growth of our economy in the region," said Barbara Thaler, president of the Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce.

The Tyrolit headquarters in Schwaz/Stans manages the group's global activities. Over 4,500 employees worldwide, including 100 in research and development, secure the family-run company's status as a technology leader.
