General Carbide Corp., a vertically integrated manufacturer of finished tooling, wear parts, and components for customers in more than two dozen market segments, held its Third Annual Career Signing Day event at which eight students from four local school districts signed letters of commitment for employment at the Greensburg, Pennsylvania, company.

The event, held May 23, at 11:30 a.m. at the General Carbide Career Academy in Greensburg is a "momentous milestone for graduating high school seniors from academic achievement and into the workforce." The event, the company said, celebrates the student's accomplishments and signifies their readiness to embark on fulfilling careers within General Carbide.

The students have demonstrated "exceptional skills, dedication, and alignment with the company's values and vision during their pre-apprenticeships at General Carbide. The event also symbolizes the company’s commitment to fostering talent, innovation, and growth within our organization and with the next generation of manufacturing.

These new employees will be filling positions in powder production, machining and finish grinding. Pictured are our new hires with the management team at General Carbide. We are all excited to see them succeed in their new positions.

Signing Day featured keynote speeches from General Carbide’s leadership team, highlighting the company's values, culture, and commitment to employee development.

Mona Pappafava-Ray, president, and CEO of General Carbide, said, “I am proud of the work and time the General Carbide team has invested in the next generation of our workforce. It is exciting to see how signing day for our seniors evolved from an idea Jessica Gardner, our Human Resources Manager, adopted from the sports world just a little over two years ago.

“I am honored that the concept of signing day for students going into the workforce started here at General Carbide adding to our strong legacy. Jessica has taken the lead with this event and has grown it into a monumental milestone by creating a ceremony where students can celebrate their decision to join the workforce. Students have signing events for athletics and academics, and now because of the efforts of our General Carbide team we are leading the way for signing days into manufacturing careers.”

"We are thrilled to welcome our newest team members and celebrate their decision to join us on this exciting journey," adds Jessica Gardner, Human Resources Manager. "At General Carbide, we believe in investing in talent and providing opportunities for growth and development. We are confident that our new hires will contribute to our continued success and help us achieve our goals."
