Hi-Q/ERC 50 Collet Nut

December 01, 2014

REGO-FIX recently introduced its new Hi-Q/ERC 50 collet nut for through-coolant tools. Designed for use with larger ER 50 tools, the nut continues the company's ongoing expansion of its ER line.

The Hi-Q/ERC 50 collet nuts can be used to replace standard ER 50 noncoolant nuts in applications where coolant through is possible. The Hi-Q/ERC 50 nut will use DS/ER 50 coolant disks for tools larger than 25.5mm and can utilize a special adapter allowing the use of ER 40 coolant and flush type disks for the smaller diameters. The adapter reduces the number of disks required specifically for ER 50 applications.

  • collet

    collet

Flexible-sided device that secures a tool or workpiece. Similar in function to a chuck, but can accommodate only a narrow size range. Typically provides greater gripping force and precision than a chuck. See chuck.

  • coolant

    coolant

Fluid that reduces temperature buildup at the tool/workpiece interface during machining. Normally takes the form of a liquid such as soluble or chemical mixtures (semisynthetic, synthetic) but can be pressurized air or other gas. Because of water’s ability to absorb great quantities of heat, it is widely used as a coolant and vehicle for various cutting compounds, with the water-to-compound ratio varying with the machining task. See cutting fluid; semisynthetic cutting fluid; soluble-oil cutting fluid; synthetic cutting fluid.
