IPS 100 Bore Inspection Sensor System

February 01, 2011

Hommel-Etamic introduces the IPS 100 bore inspection sensor system which provides rapid, single pass, automatic surface inspection of diameters from 75-110mm, instantly delivering a 360° panoramic view of a bore. The sensor permits detection of surface defects such as blow holes, scratches, porosities and more, to any depth. Typical applications include engine blocks, transmission cases, connecting rods, steering gear cases, and cylinder liners.

Utilizing state of the art CMOS imaging technology, the IPS100 continuously scans the bore surface at high speed, creating a viewable image of the bore interior. In operation, a 360-degree circular optic is advanced into the bore which then generates images of the surface. Circumferential lines in the bore are seen as rings in the image. As the sensor advances into the bore, circular scanning allows for the generation of an undistorted image of the inner surface.

The IPS 100 is a highly reliable measuring tool for high-volume inspection of critical bores, providing immediate reports to production management not only about product quality but also manufacturing process capability.
