microwaterjet F4

August 01, 2011

Micro Waterjet announced they have delivered the first fully enclosed microwaterjet precision waterjet machining system to Synthes, Switzerland.

"This system, designated the microwaterjet F4, is the next generation of machines and is available with a total enclosure." stated Walter Siegenthaler, Executive Vice President, Micro Waterjet LLC. "In addition to the enclosure, the delivered system also features a polymer concrete base which ensures platform rigidity to maintain the +/-3µm positioning accuracy necessary for the continuous production of precision parts."

Synthes is a world leading developer and producer of medical products including instruments, implants and biomaterials for the surgical fixation, correction and regeneration of the skeleton and its soft tissues. Synthes has its North American Headquarters in West Chester, Pennsylvania. microwaterjet performs ultra high precision waterjet cutting down to +/-0.0005".

Expect surface quality up to N6 for titanium or alloys without negative effects of process forces and thermal stress. Decrease scrap rates and deburring while producing biocompatible, precision parts with tolerances +/-0.01mm, depending on material and thickness.

    waterjet cutting

Fine, high-pressure (up to 50,000 psi or greater), high-velocity jet of water directed by a small nozzle to cut material. Velocity of the stream can exceed twice the speed of sound. Nozzle opening ranges from between 0.004" to 0.016" (0.l0mm to 0.41mm), producing a very narrow kerf. See AWJ, abrasive waterjet.
