Fowler High Precision Inc., Newton, Mass., now offers a custom-designed base with four locations to accept "Loc-N-Load" quick-swap fixture plates for its portable direct-computer-control coordinate measuring machine (CMM)—the zCAT. The Inspection Arsenal quick-swap fixture system has been designed to enhance zCAT's functionality, according to a recent news release from both companies.
Two bundled configurations are available that include 6" x 6" and 6" x 12" fixture plates, a specially designed removable qualifying ball plate, and a versatile angle plate. Also included is a workholding kit said to be versatile enough to hold most any part.
By fixturing on quick-swap plates, inspectors reportedly can change parts in and out without building and breaking down setups. Several unique parts can be setup or multiples of the same part fixtured and programs repeated. Affordable plates can be dedicated and kept with the job box for fast, repeatable setups.
The zCAT, which weighs about 30 pounds, is powered by a built-in 10.8 volt lithium ion battery, which reportedly provides enough power to gain precise, accurate measurements for four hours in the field.
