Garr Tool uses Beamer Laser Marking Systems machines
Garr Tool Co., a toolmaker in Alma, Mich., has purchased six laser-marking machines from Beamer Laser Marking Systems since 2008. Four of the machines are automated, except for an operator setting up the format. The other two are manual systems for small-quantity production runs and blueprint specials.

Excavating Solutions wins Hurco competiton
Philip Paull, owner of Noblesville, Ind.-based Excavating Solutions, won the Hurco Chipmaker Challenge Championship at the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) in Chicago. The prize package includes a new Hurco CNC mill worth over $100,000, a tooling package from Sandvik Coromant Co., and $10,000 of Hurco credit that can be used for training or machine options.
GF Machining to hold open house
To celebrate the opening of its new facility in Irvine, Calif., GF Machining Solutions will hold an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony Oct. 9-10. During the event, visitors can tour the facility and consult with application and product specialists from the company.

Widia, a Fort Mill, S.C.-based toolmaker, has launched its NOVO desktop and tablet application, which gives users on-demand delivery of cutting tool data and expertise for reduced product development and manufacturing lead times, according to the company. NOVO assists shop personnel in a number of intuitive ways.
Marshall Mfr. wins Romi machine
Machine tool builder Romi Machine Tools Ltd., Erlanger, Ky., announced Mike Burchill, president of Marshall Manufacturing, Minneapolis, as the winner of the "It's Time I Had a Romi in my Shop" sweepstakes, conducted at IMTS 2014 in Chicago. Burchill will receive a Romi C 420 CNC lathe, valued at $63,000.
U.S. Shop Tools releases new catalog
U.S. Shop Tools, Anaheim, Calif., has released its 2014/15 Express catalog. The 178-page catalog contains information and pricing on the company's most popular offerings, including chuck jaws, lathe chucks, lathe toolholder bushings, collet pads, live centers, internal lathe workholding, ER, TG, DA & AF collets, retention knobs, vise jaws, milling toolholders and indexable drills.
