Robotics Results: More machines, more robots, more profit
For his Robotics Results column in the April 2023 issue of Cutting Tool Engineering, Fusion | RoboJob-USA President Craig Zoberis writes about the downside of automating two CNC machines with one robot system. The 15th episode in CTE's Robotics Results video series shows an automation setup with a robot system at each CNC machine.
Version 3.40 of edgeProducts
Version 3.40 of the edge products includes a number of new features that greatly facilitate integration with standard Docker IT solutions. With version 3.40 of its edge products, Softing Industrial continues its commitment to improving connectivity at the interface of OT and IT and facilitating the use of standard IT management and monitoring solutions.
What types of CNC machines will smart factories demand?
Different types of CNC machines will appear in smart factories. Here's what you need to know about upgrading and updating your machines.
Iscar Multi-Master 145 degree spot drills
The multi-master (MM) modular milling system from Iscar USA has many possible configurations to fit your machining application. In addition to the standard MM head options, Iscar also offers special ground heads to meet your special machining requirement. The company is excited to introduce a new option for the MM line, a 145-degree drilling head that can be used to center drill or chamfer an existing hole.
NXT 5-Axis Tool and Cutter Grinder
The NXT is a small-footprint machine with a large grind zone and the ability to run small- and large-diameter wheels. It uses fewer moving parts and easily configurable options in a modular design — at a competitive price point. With industry-leading NUMROTO software on a machine manufactured and supported in the USA, the NXT is the smallest and most capable CNC tool and cutter grinder on the market.
TCB AH6225 Grade Inserts
TCB now offers AH6225 grade inserts. This latest physical vapor deposition (PVD) coated grade features a high-hardness titanium-rich PVD coating, combined with a tough dedicated carbide substrate. Extremely reliable and versatile insert grade, AH6225 allows TCB to efficiently cut bores in all material groups, including steel, stainless steel, and exotic materials.
TecMill AH3225 and AH8015 Inserts
Providing exceptional reliability and increased tool life in steel, the new AH3225 insert grade consists of a unique nano-multilayer coating featuring three distinctive characteristics for improved resistance to built-up edge, wear, and delamination, combined with a dedicated tough carbide substrate. AH8015 is another PVD grade, consisting of extremely hard PVD coating combined with a tough carbide substrate. The grade demonstrates excellent tool life stability in cast iron and heat-resistant superalloys.
DrillForceMeister
DrillForceMeister incorporates a unique head-shank coupling interface that provides exceptional reliability when drilling relatively large diameter holes from 20 millimeters to 41 millimeters. When clamped, the drill head interlocks with the shank at larger contact areas, promoting high hole precisions and qualities. Furthermore, with the SMF flat-edged drill head, drilling operations on inclined or curved surfaces or on thin walls susceptible to vibration are made easier and more efficient.
MERLIC 5.3
The deep learning technology for object detection is now also available in MERLIC. The "Find Object" tool locates trained object classes and identifies them with a surrounding rectangle (bounding box). Touching or partially overlapping objects are also separated, which allows counting of objects. Labeling and training are possible without programming knowledge using the free MVTec Deep Learning Tool. The trained network can then be loaded into MERLIC and used with a single click.
EdgeLine Bevel Module
The EdgeLine Bevel technology offers several key advantages over traditional methods that allow specific beveling techniques to be performed without tilting the laser head, reducing overall processing time, and eliminating the need for separate work center processes. The technology also has a significant impact on the preparation of components for welding techniques by enabling the automatic insertion of chamfers and countersinks of various sizes up to 45°, providing a faster and more efficient process with fewer errors compared to traditional manual methods.
Cobot Tooling Solutions
DESTACO has designed its cobot tooling solutions for simplicity and ease of use with off-the-shelf availability via kits that feature all of the end-user selected accessories, along with the hardware and tools needed for installation, reducing the need to consult an application engineer. All of the tooling solutions are compatible with cobots that have an ISO 9409-1-50-4-M6 end-of-arm mounting pattern. Blank robot and tool plates are offered for those who wish to use their own mounting patterns.
Truing Parameters Calculator
The Truing Parameters Calculator is the result of a 3-year collaboration between Rush Machinery, the International Grinding Institute, and Dr. Jeffrey Badger, the 'Grinding Doc'. Rush Machinery commissioned the project that was later presented at the 2008 CIRP General Assembly in Tokyo by Dražumerič, Badger, Klement, and Krajnik titled "Truing of Diamond Wheels–Geometry, Kinematics and Removal Mechanisms," published in the CIRP Annals, volume 57, pages 345-348.
